Cape Town – The Stormers believe the Bulls are clear favourites for Saturday’s Super 14 final at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, but they don’t plan on settling for second. Stormers coach Allister Coetzee likened the challenge awaiting his side to that of an Olympic athlete.

”Some go to compete and are content to run in the finals. Others go to win the finals, to win gold and break records,” Coetzee said. ”This Stormers side have a lot of respect for the Bulls. They are the best team in the southern hemisphere. But you go not just to run the race. We’re going to win.”

East London was the AB’s next stop for a match against a South African rural XV. The Kiwi’s experienced the hotel owner smug, a bit of a stuck-up and full of self-importance. They found it very amusing when, one Gielie de Kock -a white journalist with a dark skin- was chased out of the hotel with a group of coloured suppoters keen to meet the All Blacks. Continue reading

Durban Bulle is almost untouchable in our pool.  A posible 4.5 points can be scored if one picks the winner , the margin and bonus point on your own. Loosehead can beat him if Durban Bulle scores 0 and Loosehead takes the maximum 4.5 points available.

We wish Durban Bulle luck in the Global Standing , where he is in with a good chance to win that title.

My Rating of the Players. This might just be the exact two teams taking each other on in Soweto. Although Gerhard vd Heever will most probably replace Jaco vd Westhuizen at wing.

The Sharks rugby union have issued a press release to confirm the signing of Lionel Mapoe.

Lionel Mapoe is a Sharks player – it’s done and dusted and the player has signed a 2.5 year contract. That’s according to the KZN Union, anyway.

According to the official press release that came out a few minutes ago, Mapoe terminated his contract with the Cheetahs way back on 9 March as a result of a contractual dispute. He has thus been a free agent since then and has every right to enter into an agreement with the Sharks, for whom he will play in the Currie Cup.

Waratahs halfback Luke Burgess will use the Super 14 semi-final to convince the Test selectors he is worthy of regaining his starting spot at a time when Wallabies coach Robbie Deans has been swamped by injuries in almost every position.

Deans yesterday revealed he had lost 15 players for the opening international, against Fiji in Canberra on June 5, with one of the most pressing areas to fill being halfback, as Will Genia is expected to be sidelined until the end of next month because of a knee injury suffered in the Queensland Reds’ final-round match on Saturday night.
