Chiliboy Ralepelle at hooker and Victor Matfield as captain?
That will probably be just two of the moves that Springbok coach Peter de Villiers will make for Saturday’s rugby test against Italy in Witbank.
De Villiers has retained the squad of 27 that did duty for South Africa last week.
Springbok prop Jannie du Plessis saved a man’s life at Newlands on Saturday night shortly after helping his side to their biggest Test win yet over France on South African soil.

South Africa ended a five year losing streak against France with a resounding 42-17 victory over the French at Newlands on Saturday.
The Springboks had not beaten France since the teams met in 2005 in Port Elizabeth.
We have had the privilage here on Rugby-Talk of an analysis of the rolls of Deon Stegmann and Francois Louw, done by McLook.
This has empted one of our Bloggers, Die Blou Kuberruim Wandelaar, to compile his own analysis, and because our viewpoint is one which allows differing opinions, we always give opportunity for such brilliant works to be published.
Thanks, DBK Wandelaar, here is your impressive piece:
Springboks (25) 42 / France (10) 17 (Final score)
The Springboks hosted France at Newlands, Cape Town at 14:00 SA Time. This is the match thread for discussion of the game. The match was broadcast live on SuperSport 1 on DSTV in SA.
The Springboks came with a top game and stifled all French attempts early, also scored a try early (after 2 minutes by Pierre Spies) and then built up a solid lead.
The French never gave up and in the scrums they were strong, specially against BJ Botha ( SA Tighthead).
The Springboks finally won by 42 / 17, which must be one of the biggest Springbok wins (not the biggest though) over France.
Gio Aplon was rewarded with 2 tries and because of that received the Man of the Match award. Other standout players for the Springboks were Danie Rossouw and Francois Louw.
The Springboks host France in a once-off Test at Newlands, Cape Town on Saturday at 14:00.
Traditionally, as a Springbok supporter I have had the most respect for the All Blacks as opponents to play, but in clear second place has always been France…. “Die Hane” as we know them in Afrikaans.
One of our fellow bloggers, 4man, mailed me and some others a link of a very High Definition 3D and 360 Degrees Stadium Photograph Combination.
You can pan and zoom right onto your seat position where you will find yourself as clear as day, just before the anthems were sung!

Continue reading

Peter, you are talking too much again! Do you feel left out after all the success of the Bulls and Stormers? Just concentrate on your job and stay out of the press. This week you had something to say about the management of players and the pace of the game in Europe. I just wonder when will this bite you in the back?
Player Movement was detailed at a media conference today at the High Performance Centre in Bellville, Senior Professional Coach Rassie Erasmus and MD of WP Rugby (Pty) Ltd Rob Wagner, confirmed player movements.
Western Province flyhalf Peter Grant will miss the Currie Cup after taking the option in his contract to move to Japan on a loan spell for the remainder of 2010.
Grant is just one in a number of player movements in and out of the Cape Town outfit, as senior professional coach Rassie Erasmus looks to get all his ducks in a row ahead of the Currie Cup campaign.
Here is a short breakdown of all the player movements in and out of Western Province:
Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has selected a very experienced and competant side for the Test against france at Newlands, Cape Town on Saturday.
France coach Marc Lievremont on Tuesday called up Biarritz flanker Wenceslas Lauret to make his debut against the Springboks in Saturday’s Test at Newlands.
Lievremont said Lauret’s presence would help to contain the intensity which the South African loose forwards brings to the match.
So, sien hierdie vergelyking eerder as iets positiefs as ‘n bepaalde uitspraak oor ‘n speler.
Springbok coach Peter de Villiers believes the management of Fourie du Preez and Andries Bekker by the Bulls and Stormers respectively has contributed to the situation where both are currently unavailable because of injury. Continue reading
Peter de Villiers, National Coach and his Springbok selectors have named an extended squad of 27 players, with notable omissions Frans Steyn, CJ van der Linde, Joe van Niekerk, Meyer Bosman, Odwa Ndungane and Andries bekker.
De Villiers will announce his 22 man squad for this saturday’s Test against France tomorrow, Tuesday.
Ruan Pienaar may get the opportunity to show that he is the man to succeed Fourie du Preez as Springbok scrumhalf when the Boks play against France at Newlands on Saturday.
Team selections and pre-test opinions
The tension was unbearable, and both teams surprised with unexpected and daring team selections in an attempt to achieve some sort of strategic advantage. Continue reading
There aren’t many people who have given Colin Meads a telling-off, but the newly minted Sir Fred Allen is one of them.
The clever bloggers on Rugby-Talk picked the players’ performances as follows. The Survey stopped early this week at 18:00 Sunday.
The Springbok selectors have been instructed by the South African Rugby Union not to select Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira – or any other non-South African passport holder – for the national team, following communication from the department of Sport and Recreation.
Wales (16) 31 / Springboks (14) 34 (Final Score)
Wales hsted the Springboks at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff at 15:30 SA Time. This is the match thread for discussion of the game. The match was broadcast live on SuperSport 1 on DSTV in SA.
Wales started the match fast, racing into an early lead and after an intercept try by James Hook from a wayward John Smit pass, went into a 16 / 3 lead. The Springboks fought back and some of the new combinations started to gel and by halftime the score was Wales 16 / Bokke 14.
After halftime the Springboks continues their mid match dominance, adding another converted try and grabbing the lead, now leading by 21 / 16. It was Wales next to score from a penalty, drawing the SA lead back to only 2 points.
Frans Steyn then slotted a long penalty from near halfway, causing the Springboks to lead by 24 / 19. Next it was the try by Juan de Jongh, which carved the Welsch fedence to ribbons, for the Bokke to sail into a lead of 31 / 19.
The Welsch were not finished though and capitalised on some hurried Springbok replacements, adding 1 unconverted try and 1 converted try to the lone penalty by the Springboks, bringing the final score to Springboks 34 / Wales 31.
I saw this article on Rugby Heaven, NZ. We discussed something similar earlier this week in the article by Morne, “Protecting our Brands”
There is no doubting the sport of rugby can these days line young New Zealanders’ pockets in a very healthy manner. However, Logan Savory talks to a former Super 14 player who is warning those youngsters not to rely entirely on the world of professional rugby.
Three players with Super 14 experience and two who feature in the Springbok 7’s team were included in the South African U20 squad that will play Tonga in their opening Pool B clash of the IRB Junior World Championship in Parana on Saturday. In addition there are 4 players with Vodacom Cup experience.
Wales take on the Springboks at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff on Saturday at 15:30 SA Time.
This weekend sees the start of the Southern Hemisphere Test season and with the Super 14 having taken place just last weekend the Bokke are not at full strenght due to the fact that it is wise to rest a few weary players.
We look at the match and the Welsch squad who also does not appear to be at full strengh.
His business interests and pride in the Cheetahs jersey made it easy for Juan Smith to renew his contract with the Free State Rugby Union.
Article By Hendrik Cronjé and Jóhann Thormählen
Juan De Jongh has been named at inside centre in the Bok team to face Wales in a one-off Test in Cardiff on Saturday. He replaces Butch James, who has been withdrawn because of protracted club-versus-country dispute that raged this week.
The 21-year-old was named in the No.12 jersey when Springbok coach Peter de Villiers confirmed the team at a media conference in Cardiff on Thursday.
Rugby365 also reports as follows
Being the innovaters that they are, Bulls fans have found and mastered the true and correct way to use the instrument of noise…. during the last 2 weeks in Orlando!!
Never say they don’t learn fast!
Here’s how….
Fourie du Preez is lost to Springbok rugby for now.
The Bulls scrumhalf will undergo a shoulder operation on Tuesday, which could render him out of action for the rest of the season.
It may be World Cup football time, but don’t try telling that to rugby lovers.
Between Friday, June 4 and June 26, there will be 15 full-blooded internationals broadcast on SuperSport, in addition to the IRB junior world championships, two New Zealand Maori fixtures, the Coca Cola Craven Week, the Safaricom Sevens and a series of FNB Classic Clashes.
Victor Matfield and Zane Kirchner will join the Springbok rugby squad in Cardiff on Thursday as replacements for Andries Bekker and Butch James.
It seems as if Andries Bekker is following in the footsteps of Joost Van Der Westhuizen. And may have been withdrawn from the Bok squad for reasons other than the “injury”. Continue reading
Only time will tell whether the Golden Lions have pulled off a major coup or made another giant mistake, but the appointment of John Mitchell to coach the side in the Currie Cup is nothing short of bizarre.
