It will be goodbye Lions, hello Kings come 2013 as a political decision has been endorsed to allow only ONE TEAM per PROVINCE.
Part two into Tony O’Sullivan’s insight into the Super Rugby Series, this time, he jumps the pond to Australia.
The Second installment therefore deals with the Teams from the Land where they call each other “Mate” in stead of friend, Australia.
They are the Reds, Melbourne Rebels, Waratahs, Western Force and Brumbies.
Following on the theme of other ‘experts’ insights,Tony O’Sullivan from rugbydump has put together his thoughts on the teams competing in the upcoming Super Rugby series.
I will post them per country, as he has done.
The First installment deals with the Teams from the Land of the Long White Cloud, New Zealand.
They are the Crusaders, Blues, Highlanders, Hurricanes and Chiefs.

Super Rugby previews are more numerous than Whitney Houston tributes at the moment. In both cases time is wasted. There seems to be a reluctance amongst sports writers in general to spare one’s balls from the impending pain and climb down off the fence. So lets now seperate the poop from the champagne when it comes to the teams.
I am not going to bore you with in depth analysis of the no-hopers. I’m looking at potential champions here. To win this thing you have got to finish top of your conference. Bottom line. The ‘extended playoff’ scenario gives the ‘also rans’ a cruel illusion of hope but their chances remain slimmer than a Somalian hunger striker.
Here is how I see it.

Who knows, this comes out after the New Age report from last week. If de Klerk ever loses his job, I strongly suggest he offers his c.v. to the Fire Department, he spends his life at the Lions putting out fires – would fit in perfectly! As to the heading, any guesses to who KdK may be out of the Magic Roundabout gang?

This is where the debate starts to get interesting. So much conjecture around Burger, his role and where he should play. With Flo gone, is the fetching role going to be an area of contention?
This section deals with the locks for the Stormers. As with the Hookers, I think this is one of the stronger areas of the Stormers team, and when Bekker is back, it will make for one of the better lock combinations in the competition.
The second instalment of the ‘Series de Stormers’, this section deals with the men in the middle.
Sharks and Springbok prop Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira has been ruled out for up to three months after suffering a shin fracture during a Sharks training session on Friday morning.
2012 is the year that the Stormers will try to one further than the semi-finals for the 3rd time in a row. If the last two years are anything to go by, and the squad build up that Rassie Erasmus and Allister Coetzee have been trying to achieve, than going all the way should be a given.
JUSTIN ONTONG’S outstanding form for the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras in both the SuperSport Series and the domestic 1-Day Cup has earned him a recall to the Proteas’ Castle Lager squad for both the ODI and T20 series against New Zealand.
In the next round of preparation fixtures for Super Rugby 2012, the DHL Stormers this week take on the MTN Lions and then the Toyota Cheetahs in the DHL Pre-Season Series.
