Nic White and David Pocock will help lead the Brumbies as vice-captains in 2015, after head coach Stephen Larkham and captain Stephen Moore made the announcement on Thursday.

Both Pocock and White have proven leadership qualities having led professional sides on the big stage in the past.

White was named the Brumbies youngest captain against the Hurricanes in 2013, while Pocock has captained both the Wallabies and the Western Force.

A former Brumbies academy captain, White said he was thrilled to have been acknowledged with the vice-captaincy of the main squad.

“This is a big moment for me and it’s something I’ll look back at with pride,” White said.

“I’ve had the pleasure of playing under Steve on a number of occasions and I think we will form a productive working group.

“I don’t think my day-to-day tasks will differ too much. It’s more about taking on the extra responsibilities and to make sure I’m always putting in 100 per cent, both in training and game day.

“This team has the potential to do great things, so for me it’s about doing my best and encouraging everyone else here to do the same.”

Like White, Pocock has previously held leadership roles with the Brumbies.

Despite having limited game time, Pocock’s influence as vice-captain over the last 3 seasons has been instrumental in lifting the Brumbies to 5 play-off games.

Pocock said with his knee now working at 100 percent he could focus solely on the team’s preparation for the season opener against the Red in a month’s time.

“Obviously being 100 percent fit for the start of the season has been my focus over the last 6 or 7 months and with the help of our rehab coach, Benny Serpell, we ticked that goal,” Pocock said.

“Being fit means I’ve been able to focus a lot more on the team and where we are headed this season. We have a lot of senior guys, like Steve and Scott Fardy returning from injury so things are looking positive.

“I think being recognised as a leader of any team is humbling. I’m thankful for being given this opportunity again in 2015 and I look forward to getting more game time under my belt over the next 12 months.”

The Brumbies face the Force in Perth next Friday for their first trial of the season, before heading to Wagga to face the Highlanders 2 weeks out from the start of the Super Rugby season.

The Brumbies open their season in Canberra on 13 February against the Reds.
