The South African Rugby Union received handy compensation from the Welsh Rugby Union for agreeing to play last weekend’s Test in Cardiff.
The Test at Millennium Stadium fell outside World Rugby’s international window, but was played after both rugby union’s agreed to square off.
According to reports, SARU received £750 000 (about R 13 Million) from the WRU for the Test.

Because the match fell outside the Test window, the teams weren’t allowed to call on their overseas stars, although Wales were able to field some of their French-based stars after an agreement was reached with the French clubs.
Wales beat the Springboks 12-6 to record only their second win over the Springboks in 30 matches.
It was the Springboks’ 14th match of the year and the fourth on their year-end European tour. The Boks produced a tired, listless performance and also paid a heavy price when skipper Jean de Villiers was ruled out for an extended period after dislocating his knee.
Still not worth it, or is it?
If the loss against Wales means getting rid of Hougie once and for all might make up for it
@ Victoriabok:
Probably not worth it…. .75 million pounds to blot a wonderful record of only one previous loss… seems a tad on the low side….
@ Te Rangatira:
Yes if it’s just a cash grab, play the Japs or Yanks, Wales is probably the only top tier team where the Bokke have a better win ratio record than NZ, they should try and preserve that.
If there is cash to be crabbed………………………………….crab it I say.
Mind you, as NZIC points out,
the Boks could have played at North Harbour Stadium,
against Rangi’s Golden Oldies and still pocketed more than 750K.
And who knows………………………THEY may have even managed a win. (They can be who ever you like.)
@ cane:
