Paul Jordaan and Wynand Olivier have been called up to the Springbok squad in the places of Juan de Jongh and Frans Steyn.

The uncapped Jordaan, a former star for the SA Under 20 and Springbok Sevens teams, has impressed for the Sharks this season.

Olivier is a veteran of 37 Tests for the Springboks. He made his Test debut in 2006 and his last match in the Green and Gold was in 2012 against England in Port Elizabeth.

“Paul has successfully come through the national and provincial ranks and was one of the Sharks’ in-form backs on their very successful Australasian tour since he came back from an injury a few weeks ago,” said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.

“Wynand’s been with us before. He is very experienced and was one of the better players in the World XV team we faced in Cape Town last weekend, while he was also one of the star performers for his club, Montpellier, who finished second in the tough French Top 14 league.”

Both these players can cover inside and outside centre and linked up with the squad on Friday.

I have noted on many of the other social sites that Heyneke is getting a lot of flak for selecting Wynand into the squad.

Now, being a Stormer supporter, Wynand has never been high up on my list of favorites and has been the butt of many a joke, however, those that are now attacking HM and calling it Bulls bias and all that shit is just plain stupid IMO. Most of these have expressed sympathy with Frans Steyn and yet fail to see the irony in that if Steyn didn’t ditch his team Wynand wouldn’t have been recalled to the group.

The guy played in Cape Town last week and is obviously at least fit and willing, and with most of the current centers injured, what did they expect?

Amazing how HM and Wynand are now the bad guys, but Steyn who played the biggest part in the recall is the victim and hero.

Arghh jong, take it from whence it comes!

Wynand Meisiekind is not the best or flashiest centre around… but at least he’s been a Bok.

They will be carrying tackle bags anyway, so Wynand’s experience that he can impart to the younger centres is probably more important than any other value that he would add.

I mean, 3 Stormers centres out, Frans Steyn having blown a foofie valve, JJ Engelbrecht not on form at the Bulls… it was always going to be choices between Paul Jordaan, Johann Sadie, Rayno Benjamin and an overseas option.

… and Paul Jordaan is there, so I don’t know what the farking worry is….

Some people like to moan, and some people think they HAVE TO moan… and then there are those like you and I who consider all alternatives and give a straight answer…

Moet se HM gee nie n hel om wat ander se nie. Hy soek altyd eerste by die Bulle dan kyk hy rond. Hy ken hul immers.

Komaan WO vat hierdie gap, maak daai possie joune

    @ nortierd:

    @ MacroBok:

Wynand is solid. And he will create loads of space for JanSerf…and Meisiekind can tackle!
HM knows what he is doing.

Fair call. Paul Jordaan is a guy for the future and Wynand is in the Victor and Bakkies “experienced” mode, so all good.
