The build-up to one of Europe’s greatest sporting weekends is almost complete as the clock ticks towards the Cardiff 2014 finals kick-off.
With a galaxy of international stars ready to take the stage at the atmospheric Millennium Stadium for tomorrow’s Heineken Cup decider between RC Toulon and Saracens, and at Cardiff Arms Park for this evening’s all-English Amlin Challenge Cup confrontation featuring Bath Rugby and Northampton Saints, fans from all over Europe are flocking into the Welsh capital to savour a unique celebration of club rugby.
Both matches – which will feature players from as many as 15 nations including luminaries of the global game such as Jonny Wilkinson, George North, Matt Giteau, Schalk Brits and Bryan Habana – will be broadcast in more than 150 countries worldwide.

Reigning champions, RC Toulon, could become the third club after Leicester Tigers (2001 and 2002) and Leinster Rugby (2011 and 2012) to retain the Heineken Cup, while the brilliant Habana could go into the record books as the fourth player in history to complete the treble of Rugby World Cup, Heineken Cup and Super Rugby titles.
Saracens, meanwhile, are appearing in a first European final and will be looking to become the first English club to lift the coveted trophy since London Wasps triumphed in 2007.
The stakes are also high for the Amlin Challenge Cup clubs who will contest a first major rugby final on an artificial pitch. Bath and Saints are each focused on clinching a third European title at the Arms Park tonight, with both in line for a second Challenge Cup success.
ERC has entered into a partnership with Cardiff City Council to create a European Champions Village fan experience outside Cardiff Castle. With Duke Street pedestrianised tomorrow for the Heineken Cup final, the Champions Village will be open from midday and will offer a perfect opportunity for locals to savour the unique atmosphere of a major European rugby occasion.
The Village will be the focal point for a gathering of fans, both local and overseas with live music, interactive games, a Heineken Cup trophy photo booth, a big screen, Heineken bars and local cuisine as well as special guests from the world of rugby.

Tigers must be pig sick!
@ Scrumdown:
Hi Scrumdown yes they have been built up nicely by Jim Mallinder something which seems to have been recognized far and wide as I read here yesterday that the WP coach was going to see Northampton as part of his learning tour. As for the double mmmm don’t know about that guess it depends how much Toulon take out of Saracens tomorrow, plus point for Northampton is an extra days rest between the finals compared to Sarries.
What happened to that ex-Bok prop from Zimbabwe, not withSsaints anymore?
Forgot his name..played for Lions/WP.
Bath 6-3
The Bath / Saints game is not broadcast here in SA

Pity….nice atmosphere, stands are packed!
Runaway try by Bath as we speak, totally against the run of play….Saints about to score, ball went loose, picked up by Bath winger on his own line and he ran straight through, untouched! 13-6 bath leads.

Nag ou Pieta!
Well done to Northampton Saints for winning the Amlin Challenge Cup, with Stephen Myler scoring 20 points with his boot for them. Final score: Bath 16/30 Northampton Saints.
Toulon’s team added.
13 players with South African connections in the Heineken Cup final squads (ok, Jaques Burger actually played for Namibia but he did really learn to play the game properly at the Bulls )
3 @ Pietman:
Hi Pietman Mujati left Northampton at end of last season to play for Racing Metro, a nice article on it :

Saracens have certainly been scoring lots of tries in the Heineken Cup this year with their players taking up the top two spots on the list and one in 4th, the first of Toulon’s top try scorers appears in 7th place:
1 Chris Ashton Saracens 11* 2= Chris Wyles Saracens 5 4= David Strettle Saracens 4 7= David Smith Toulon
3. Chris Ashton with 11 tries makes him the one who has scored the highest number of tries ever in a Heinken Cup season!
Won’t be around for the match, hopefully its a good one for all who can watch. Please keep the scores flowing here if anyone is watching and around here at the time
Jeez missed the first few minutes, this game is hectic!

Well done Toulon for retaining the Heineken Cup. Final Score- Saracens 6/23 Toulon.
