Robert du PreezExciting Maties flyhalf Robert du Preez has signed a contract with Western Province Rugby, which will see last year’s SA Under-20 pivot play his rugby in Cape Town until 2016 at least.

Du Preez had been on loan from the Sharks to the University of Stellenbosch for the duration of the 2014 Varsity Cup, but the tournament’s leading points-scorer has now chosen to remain in the Cape with immediate effect.

The son of former Springbok, Sharks and Blue Bulls scrumhalf Robert du Preez, who now coaches NWU-Pukke, Robert Junior has carved out his own reputation as a quality rugby player, having represented KZN and Natal at Under-16 and Under-18 level.

Robert du Preez Jr represented his country with distinction in the 2013 IRB Junior World Championships in France and this year his inspirational performances for the Maties in the Varsity Cup saw the strapping flyhalf nominated as one of the three finalists for the prestigious 2014 Player of the Tournament Award.

The former Kearsney College scholar is clearly one of the country’s most outstanding flyhalf talents and he will provide much-needed depth at Under-21 level for Western Province this year, with Ryno Eksteen out of action for some time with an injury.

Du Preez, who turns 21 on July 30 of this year, stands 1,92 metres tall and weighs 95 kilograms.

Would be fantastic, but jeez, it’s going to a big ask.
Everything about India is clicking from the first game, their batsmen are in wonderful form, even Yuvraj came good just when they needed him to, and their spinners are top notch.
But it’s a funny game 20/20, lots of luck involved, so we could very likely win

I reckon we might be a spinner short to win the tournament on these type of pitches.

    It’s been interesting to watch.
Some pitches good for 190 plus, others you struggle to get 120
Wonder which ones will be used for the last 3 games

Apart from that, the batting order is still wrong and the top-order is not performing

    @ grootblousmile:

Yes… AB would be the key… but where to bat him? .. in the past he performed better when coming in after 10 overs.. but then again, he is by far our best batsman and therefore should be in a position to face the most balls… it’s a tricky one.

If the proteas get a good start bring AB in at 4 if not then further down.

    @ gunther:
Bring AB in as soon as possible. At no. 3, no matter whether we have a good start or not. If he can face 40 balls he’ll do much more damage than if he can only face 25.

Personally, I’d like him to open in T20’s with Amla at 3.

    4. Miller
    5. Duminy
    6. Faf
    7. Albie

Ps: I’m no fan of both Faf and Albie but they are in the squad at this stage.

    NOM NOM
Hope he is not to become a “celebrity cotton-wool child” like Pollard at da Bulle

He wont play much anyway, if you think they have the like of Ryno Eksteen, and Gary is extremely underrated but the Stormers management.

I did not watch the Tuks game where he was apparently a magician, but the game against UCT he looked terrible.

The big question is, did WP sign that UCT scrummie?

If not, why the F%%k not?

‘Du Preez had been on loan from the Sharks to the University of Stellenbosch for the duration of the 2014 Varsity Cup…’

What’s this nonsense, I thought the Varsity Cup was for bona fide students only?
