  I see the George Sevens Premier League, to be held for the 2nd time on the weekend round about 13-14 December is going to an interesting one!

  Not only is there a Million Rand at stake, but Rugby, Soccer and now also Cricket all join hands for this competition.

  It was announced today that the Titans cricket side will also enter a team, coached by Jimmy Stonehouse.. couch of the Pumas Rugby side. Soccer is already included with the Kaizer Chiefs side also entering a side plus of course teams from the big Rugby Unions in SA (Blue Bulls, WP, Sharks, Lions, Cheetahs) as well as SWD and a couple of sides with international flavour.

  Last year was the 1st competition like this, and this year it promises to be bigger.

  Last year it was televised live and I’m sure it will be again this year.

  It’s really a pity that PRO12 doesn’t seem to be broadcast over in SA going by the schedule, some mouth watering prospects in the PRO12 games this weekend with 2nd placed Ospreys at home to 4th placed Glasgow on Friday night and 3rd placed Leinster against 6th place Scarlets on Saturday, instead you get to watch Premiership rugby with 4th placed Harlequins facing 9th placed Newcastle on Sunday and who have only secured 1 bonus point for 4 tries scored between them in the combined total of 16 games so far this season.

  Hello GBS yes this seems like a good innovation with this tournament that started last year, hopefully broadening the base of support for rugby, just not sure though how the Titans will do, I know its 7s so not nearly as physical as 15 man rugby but will the cricketers be able to cope with rugby players even if they have a really good coach in Stonehouse.

  Stonehous is sure to include some Pumas players in the Titans squad… Rosco Speckman, Coenie van Wyk, JW Bell & Danwell Demas… and I believe AB de Villiers played Craven Week rugby at flyhalf in 2002… and Faf du Plessis was quite handy himself.

  Will be interesting indeed!

  I suppose it revolves around broadcasting deals for TV in SA… not sure why the Pro12 is being neglected.

  Yes probably quite a complex issue of broadcasting rights and which rugby your providers over there are prepared to pay for, I would definetely bang the drum if I were you with your provider about getting to see PRO12 games, as long as they show the good ones and hopefully not take the cheapest ones available which will probably be between the lower teams and not always the best.
  Quite an interesting difficult period we going through at the moment in domestic rugby here as at the moment I get to watch some PRO12 games on the national broadcaster but I think the pay sports channel will be broadcasting PRO12 next year and I don’t have it, hopefully there will still be some games on national broadcasting channels. On top of it last I heard the RabboDirect sponsorship of the PRO12 ends at end of this season and don’t know yet if a new sponsor has been acquired, then if that’s not enough our administrators have to deal with the ongoing Heineken Cup issues, will we have one next year or not and if we do will England clubs be in it who will be broadcaster etc… Really hope we get through the next 6 months of negotiations ok and that our domestic rugby comes out of it at least on a same level as before but hopefully better as this will then feed on to national level.
