Western Province have included three Stormers fringe players in their squad to face the Golden Lions in a friendly clash on Johannesburg on Friday evening.
Sport24
Hooker Scarra Ntubeni, scrumhalf Nic Groom and prop Chris Heiberg have been called up by coach John Dobson to join a WP team consisting mainly of Vodacom Cup players.
It was initially reported that the Lions will face the Stormers but they will now play WP instead. The Lions will use the game as reparation for their promotion-relegation series when they will face the lowest ranked South African side in this year’s Super Rugby competition over two legs (July 26 and August 3).
WP included the trio in their squad so they could get some much needed game time. Ntubeni has missed most of the season due to injury, while Groom has fallen out of favour with the Stormers coaches after a string of disappointing performances.
Dobson said they will use the game as preparation for the upcoming Currie Cup.
“It will give a playing chance to players who last played in the Vodacom Cup. It’s also a nice opportunity for the three Stormers players to get a game under the belt.”
WP, who drew 21-all with SWD in a friendly match in George over the weekend, will name their team later this week.
The clash at Ellis Park kicks off at 19:00 on Friday.

The Stormers game was a supposed pre-requisite by SARU.
Typically of the useless womens sexual organs sitting in the shade of table mountain.
Lions should withdraw all of their loan players currently with the Stormers and make them carry tackle bags until the Currie Cup.
1 @ Scrumdown:
Lions will also only play a Sharks Vodacom Cup type squad and only a Blue Bulls Vodacom Cup type squad…
This season could have been so much more for the Lions if they organised better and set the game contracts with the other sides firmly in stone!
Fark, I would not run again for re-election if I was Kevin de Klerk, he’s also been nothing but a disgrace!
The buck stops at the top… but the lift does not go all the way there, the lights are on but nobody is home!
This has become a farce.
Brendan Venter to take up DOR at the Sharks from the start of the Currie Cup.
Just read this on Rugby365. I do hope they keep Plum as Forwards Coach. Still think he has a lot to offer. We had a nightmare injury season this year.
Anyhow good luck to Venter

Venter takes over at Shark Tank
Tue, 11 Jun 2013 11:30
Former Saracens boss Brendan Venter will take up the position as Director of Rugby at the Sharks from the beginning of the Currie Cup season.
Since returning to South Africa from England Venter has acted as assistant to South African Under-20 coach Dawie Theron.
Current Sharks coach John Plumtree has been the target of heavy criticism this year with his team out of contention for a Super Rugby play-off place despite losing in the final last year.
Former Springbok coach Nick Mallett was linked with the job over the weekend, but he confirmed that he had declined the Sharks’ offer.

Sorry to copy and paste a article about the Sharks on a Lions thread. Just not sure where to post it.
@ grootblousmile:
At least the Lions tried something, instead of sitting twiddling their thumbs like other certain unnamed franchise which used their political clout to gain Super Rugby status.
6 @ Lion4ever:
Sure they tried… and sure I want them BACK in Super Rugby!
But they never dotted the “i’s” or crossed the “t’s” for The Lions Challenge.
Just look how many of their planned games were cancelled and how many games have now been downgraded or substituted.
I really wish that they can get their admin and business matters in order. Once they had secured the rights to the games it should have been followed up and set in stone with contracts.
I ask again, is Kevin de Klerk the right man and has he ensured proper Administration below his level? The only answer I come up with is, no.
I really, really feel for you Lions supporters who are being disapointed again and again!
@ Scrumdown – Yes please I wish the Lions would withdraw their players from our side. We do not want them there, and never want to see another Lion loanee in my life.
@GBS – Agree that the way the Kings came into the Super series was not right. But give the players their credit. They are a fighting team. And I think that if the Lions should meet the Kings in the promotion/relegation matches they are going to have a tough task.
Also I heard the Stormers tried to throw the Lions loanee’s into the ocean, but sh@t floats. And they washed back on shore.
9 @ Timothy Bornman:
I heard a few Stormers players also fell into the sea when the Lions loanee’s were thrown in… and they also washed up on the beach next to the Lions players.
Maybe Toetie & Fleckie washed up too… hehehe
@GBS. I think they should tie Toetie & Fleckie to each other and then to ‘n 50 ton weight and try again.
Let the Kings beat the Lions in the playoff for Super15 spot then we need to hear, worry or care about them any more
@ Timothy Bornman:
Your cr@p coaches have ruined so many players who have ventured to Cape Town, its not even funny.
@ Gena_ZA:
@ Gena_ZA:
Funny boy.
Nope – the players that have come to the Stormers as “loan” player were godlike in an under performing team, just shows you how bad they actually are
So easy to see things from only your own perspective isin’t it
