Vodacom Bulls player Lionel Mapoe will miss the remainder of the Vodacom Super Rugby season due to a shoulder injury. The versatile outside back sustained the injury on Saturday during his side’s 30-25 win over the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.
Bulls Media Release
According to Vodacom Bulls team doctor, Org Strauss, the player will be out for at least six to eight weeks, but if operated upon, could miss the rest of the season.
“Lionel will see a specialist on Tuesday, who will decide what the next step is. He had a scan today which showed some damage.”
There was good news for Francois Venter though, as the midfielder, who had a groin operation, will be fit once the squad assemble again.
The rest of the injury list is:
Paul Willemse (7 weeks, knee)
Cornell Hess (6 months, knee)
Wiaan Liebenberg (three weeks, shoulder)
Akona Ndungane (1 week, back)
Has Mapoe moved permanently from the Lions to the Bulls, or is it another Lions player crocked whilst on loan?
1 @ Scrumdown:
Crocked on Loan
2 @ grootblousmile:
So then I have to ask a stupid question, did the GLRU have the foresight to write a clause into the contract whereby the Union that the loaned player was playing for become liable for any and all costs associated with any injuries sustained whist on loan?
Salaries, medical costs, rehabilitation costs, salaries whilst undergoing potentially long term rehabilitation etc etc etc.
Besides Mapoe, Jaco taute is also out for some time, with a number of other players with shorter term injuries.
Eish. I hope Mr de Klerk en Kie had their bases covered. (Why do I have a funny feeling in my gut?)
