His brief was just to complete his 30 minutes of rugby and walk off the field uninjured. However his time on the field showed why his return has been so keenly anticipated, not only by the Cheetahs fans but by most rugby lovers. He hardly looked as if he had been away from the game for two years.
His physicality and leadership were quickly evident. Together with Frans Viljoen, they added the grunt that was missing in the Cheetahs pack thus far. Naka Drotskè was very pleased with Juan’s return as well as the form of many senior players that returned from injury.
Johann Sadie, Willie le Roux and Rocco Jansen amongst the backs and Phillip van der Walt, Juan Smith, Frans Viljoen and Lappies Labuschagne amongst the forwards, were players that impressed coach Naka Drotskè.
The Cheetahs will select their strongest side from the available players versus the Vodacom Bulls in the final warm-up match and Naka Drotskè will be keen to see how Robert Ebersohn and Johann Sadie combine.
Pretty chuffed he came though uscalled.
Must say that look on Duanne’s face after Juan floored him said : “WTF took me doown that hard”
ysterman….nuff said
Baie bly om hom terug te sien. Met Schalla ook reg en ‘n klomp laaities wat hand opsteek het HM ‘n lekker kopseer om die regte lostrio vir die bokke te kies.
Good to see Juan back…. hope he lasts. Can’t help but thinking when the next injury breakdown will be.
Good 30 minutes, one nice run on the right wing, couple of tackles, otherwise a bit tentative and standing off the rucks a bit too much. But he’ll get back to his best, should he stay injury free.
