Speaking just ten days before Scotland open the 2013 tournament with the most venerable match in the international game – against England at Twickenham – Johnson said it was important to focus on performance.

“Of course we all want Ws (wins).  I want Ws,” he declared. “But if we get caught up on the ending before we focus on performance and getting the ride right, then we’ll never get to the end.”

Johnson also explained that Kelly Brown, Scotland’s most recent captain during the EMC Tests in the autumn was with him at today’s launch as a senior player.

“We have a new coaching team and it’s only right that I speak with the coaches and discuss with them captaincy and the team selection.  We’ll announce our captain and the team to play England next week,” he said.
