Here’s a review of the Judicial hearings and citings following a weekend of ill-diciplined rugby in South Africa.
As we all know by now, in a water logged match in the ABSA Currie Cup between The Sharks and DHL Western Province, four players were carded in Durban, Sharks losse forward Jean Deysel received a Yellow Card, Jebb Sinclair and Tyrone Holmes from Province both received Red Cards for punching, whilst Wilhelm van der Sluys from Province received a Yellow Card.
From about 5 minutes before the end of the match, Western Province was forced to play with only 12 players on the pitch, effectively resulting in an eventual Penalty Try to the Sharks just before the end of the game.
But unfortunately that was not the only game soured by citings which have ended up in Judicial Hearings…
The following Judicial Hearings are scheduled:
- SARU Offices, Newlands, Cape Town (12:00) – DHL Western Province players, Jebb Sinclair and Tyrone Holmes, stand accused for allegedly punching an opponent and therefore breaching Law 10.4(a). Peter Ingwersen has been appointed as the Judicial Officer.
- Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria (14:00) – Valke Under-21 player Willie Engelbrecht, cited for allegedly striking an opponent and therefore transgressing law 10.4 (a) in an Absa Under-21 First Division match played in Kimberley on 15 September 2012. Adv. Tokkie van Zyl has been appointed as the Judicial Officer.
- Golden Lions Rugby Union, Doornfontein, Johannesburg (11:00) – MTN Golden Lions player JR Esterhuizen, cited for a dangerous tackle in the Absa Under-21 match between the Golden Lions and Leopards at Profert Olën Park, Potchefstroom on Friday 14 September. Louis Booyse has been appointed as judicial officer.
In addition, Springbok replacement prop, Dean Greyling, who played on Saturday against the All Blacks, was cited, pleaded guilty and was suspended for two weeks from all forms of rugby.
All in all, not a good weekend for South African rugby, considering the ill dicipline on display!
Guess Jebb and Tyrone can prepare for some Gym time for a few weeks… can’t see them doing anything other than pleading guilty and copping some form of suspension.
Or looking to signup with WWE 🙂
Dust ups will always be part of a rugby game. But good ref can calm things down, or even prevent them from happening, but the standard of reffing over the last few weeks has been questionable to say the least. I am surprised more incidents have not happened. A testimony to the discipline of the players.
Tyrone can use some work on the speed ball. His timing on that haymaker was terrible. Maybe Jebb can give him some pointers.

As frans witbuffel sukkel kan sonny bill seker maar vir jeb try
@ smallies: If Frans doesn’t collapse in the first round i suspect SBW will be in big trouble.
I reckon that when Buffel tackles SBW, SBW will do what he always does – off-load in the tackle…

Fark, I think the Wit Buffel is somewhat of a “Tackle Bag” by now.
