The Vodacom Blue Bulls have lost Deon Stegmann for the remainder of the Absa Currie Cup season.
Official Blue Bulls release
The international loose forward broke his arm while playing for the Blue Bulls against Western Province in Cape Town on the weekend and will be out of action for at least two months.
This was confirmed by Vodacom Blue Bulls team doctor Org Strauss on Tuesday.
“Deon again broke the same arm that was injured during the Super Rugby season,” Strauss said.
The injury means that coach Pine Pienaar will again have to make changes to his loose trio ahead of Saturday’s Absa Currie Cup match against the MTN Golden Lions at Loftus Versfeld.
Arno Botha is still out for another week or two due to a hamstring strain, but Strauss had some good news with regards to Bjorn Basson.
“Bjorn should be back next week and will be able to start training,” he said.
The Blue Bulls will name their side to play the Lions on Wednesday.
Eishhhh
This is a big blow all the best to Stegmann hope the recovery goes well. Was wondering why he was replaced so early in the game against WP. A pity that Stegmann has been injured for such a big part of this season and you wonder how he will fare when he is back you would think a fetcher relies on his strength in his legs to stay on his feet but especially in his arms to rip the ball from the opponents as well, hopefully his best days are not behind him. Anyway GBS you have rated Tecklenberg so he will just have to show his worth. Guys on the Blue Bulls site were rating Marnus Schoeman for a while before he left to go to Griquas so its a pity he got away, we have also lost Johhno Ross and Van Velze to UK who could have been stand-in players for the injured ones, at least it vindicates the managements choice to hold onto CJ Stander until the end of the season, when some more irrational ‘fans’ were saying he is leaving so let him go soon.
Third consecutive season he has a big injury. Danger sign for his career.
Damn, that’s not fair!
I’d love to know how many weeks in total all SA loosies have lost due to injuries this year…
