Span: 15 Jürgen Visser, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 Ulrich Beyers, 12 Francois Venter, 11 Clayton Blommetjies, 10 Louis Fouchè, 9 Ruan Snyman, 8 Dewald Potgieter (Kaptein), 7 Arno Botha, 6 Deon Stegmann, 5 Cornell Hess, 4 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 3 Frik Kirsten, 2 Willie Wepener, 1 Dawie Steyn
Plaasvervangers: 16 Robbie Coetzee, 17 Werner Kruger, 18 Grant Hattingh, 19 CJ Stander, 20 Lohan Jacobs, 21 Lionel Cronjè, 22 Jan Serfontein.
Sjoe, dis ‘n jong span!
2 @ Gena_ZA:
Dewald Potgieter was eers bekend vir Nr 8 spel… so ek hoop ook hy gedy weer daar.
1 @ GBS,
You trying to pull the wool over our eyes here again. The backline is very young yes, but in the pack, you have almost the entise Silverdays retirement team in
Dawie Steyn 28, Wepener, 31, Steenkamp 27, Stegmann 26, and Pottie 27
Just kidding! it’s going to be good to see the youngsters make a name in the CC. And there are many. Like you said, Griquas have afew ex Bulls, but they also have a pack, with some grunt. Haven’t seen the team, but I reckon it might look like this
Ivan Espach, Matt Dobson, Adrianse, Edwin Hewitt, Frikkie Spies, Wesley Wilkens, Jaco Nepgen, Burger Schoeman, Marnus Hugo, Marnitz Boshoff, Luzuko Vulindlu, Walter Venter, Jean Stemmet, Lawson/Jansen, willie le Roux
bench: Steph Roberts, Westraad, Landman/Muller, Chase Minnaar, Jannie Boshoff
It’s going to be an entertaining match for sure
5 @ Cheetah4eva:
Hello Cheetah will keep an eye out for the Griquas team announcement then, thought they would be stronger than that one you put up but maybe its because don’t know a lot of the forwards listed. Where are JP Nel and Stefan Watermeyer, good players those at this level, have heard Walter Venter is good but is Stemmet better than Nel and Watermeyer? Apart from Marnitz Boshoff (must be a good man as he’s an oud Laevelder) who else out of that 22 would kick, so maybe with this in mind would think Brummer will be in the 22 somewhere?
5 @ Cheetah4eva:
Oh yes Cheetah have been meaning to ask you what you think of old Grey boy Jean Cook, have read before that he is a very good player and great future prospect but not seen him play yet and with his injuries he hasn’t had too much chance yet this year at Blue Bulls.
1 @ grootblousmile:
Hey GBS are you going to be at Loftus for this one? What do you think of Robbie Coetzee? Must admit it was a name I didn’t recognize so had a look and seen he is a 22 year old hooker, if the stats are correct 1.85m and 105kg so quite a ‘stewige outjie’ and has played 8 Vodacom cup games for Blue Bulls. Incidently noted that both times he played against Griquas this year we lost, hope thats not a bad omen. Also we scored 17 points in both those games, ja ja I know probably meaningless stats but still thought that was ‘interesting’
5&6 @ Bully,
I sit corrected, but I think Lawson is also quite a shot with the boot, as is Willie le Roux. Jean Cook, is an exciting youngster, I was miffed when he moved to the Bulls, but swings and roundabouts.
Espach is a big fellow (son of Jaco Espag, Dobson was SA u19 hooker in ’05, and Adriaanse is bro of the Lions prop.
Hewittis an upcoming star according to Pote Human, Burger Schoeman was highly rated as a youngster at the Bulls, and Wilkins was highly regarded ex Maties Cappie. Chase Minnaar is ex 7’s, that might ring a bell. Vulindlu was competing with Mvovo at one stage, before leaving. Jannie Boshoff ex Lions also has pace, and is a strong fellow. Of course Willie le Roux needs no intro.
I have no idea what form JP and watermeyer are in, though I tend to agree with you. Though Stemmet was also an SA u19 player in 2005. I think maybe young Venter, Beyers, Serfontein, Blommetjies, and Visser might be a tad fleet of foot for JP to crash tackle lol.
@ grootblousmile: LOL young team, you guys get potgieter and we get Jebb Sinclair, a “not quite there” Canadian.
Young but talented team.
9 @ Cheetah4eva:
Thanks for the info on all those players so it seems like Griquas have been gathering players from all over the place too Sounds like they have a good squad for this level then, can remember now a Schoeman that Bulls fans thought was going to be the next good fetcher flank, didn’t recognize the first name Burger. Surely Jaco Espag is not that old that his son already playing for Griquas, or maybe I’m thinking of a different guy – the man who used to play prop for Bulls. Yip it looks like there is some good young talent there in our backline, hopefully the halfbacks will be able to get them some into some good attacking space, the problem is that Fouche did not get enough game time in Super 15 this year and so some of his development time has been wasted, hope he steps up big time for us. Have heard that Ulrich Beyers is doing quite well but should he not be playing in his position at fullback, am not so sure about all the shifting about of players into the centre that has been going on. There are guys who rate Visser so I guess this is a way to have Beyers on the field but surely if he is such a good player then he must be played at fullback, or is Visser there to add a bit of experience along with Ndungane.
8 @ Bullscot:
Yes, will be going to the Press Box at Loftus for this one on Friday Night!
Will be tough, Griquas have had a lot of time together as a team….
11 @ Bully,
Lol, checked the SA Rugby website, Jaco Espag born March 1967, and Ivan born Sept 1987. Long shot, but I am sure I heard he was Jaco’s lad.
Ah found it on worldartists website! He is indeed Jaco’s boy, and he also had a run at the Blue Bulls
Serfontein on the bench? I thought the Bulls lost a lot of players? That is one strong looking Bulls team! Would love to see Venter and Serfontein together
