Another Bok selection with all the debate about form, merit ,transformation and just plain craziness. The only definite is that barring injury, these are the players that will go North and attempt to come back with our rugby reputation intact.
As usual, the Bok coach will be under pressure to win.
How does he intend doing that with, what appears to be the cards stacked against him?
And how has he contributed to the difficulty of this tour with the decisions that he has made before the players leave?
Consider that forward play is very intense in the NH and that scrumming is far more advanced technically than in the SH.
Are our key tight forwards tired and played off their feet or are they able to lift their bodies for 3 more tests at the end of a long season?
Just as importantly, how will they react at scrum time when faced with opposition that are out to embarrass them?
Has Heinke spent the last few months in a secret training camp with the best tight head scrumming coach, training against the best loose heads we have available?
Or does Mr De Villiers think that because Heinke is very strong and has a good attitude, that is all he needs to play tight head prop at the highest level after a long time away from the game?
Or does Mr De Villiers think that Heinke can learn the intricacies of playing tight head at international level on the job this November?
I, for one do not know the answers to these questions, however if Heinke has not been on an extensive tight head training program and if the coach answers , “YES” to these questions above, then what is he doing being the Springbok coach?
Time will reveal all, however do not be surprised to see our beloved Boks under immense pressure in both the mid week games and tests this November.
A miracle of motivation and physical endurance from our senior players is going to be needed.
As for the new kids on the block, maybe the pride of being a Bok will carry them through, however technical issues, like the Heinke one above cannot be escaped.
TH spot on. Why was H.Van der Merwe selected? He has been injured if I remember since April and has played no rugby since then. Then people question us why John is playing TH too. I know he is not the best there but at least he has played there this year and played against the NH LH when we played the Lions here.
HvM is very good at LH but not being shoved into playing TH without even game time is just so crazy I don’t understand it.
The Test players are well selected. I always say select your best when playing for the Boks. Then we should have selected Frans Steyn and JdV even if they are playing overseas.
The new selections are a huge disappointement to me. Where is Mapoe who was a cert for me to get selected. Vermeulen, Sykes, Deysel, Alberts, J. Pietersen a few others too. I know they will play mid-week games, but this was a great time to play the players that were performing in those games to give us a look at how they do. Pleased that D. Potgieter at least got selected. Why take 3 hookers on tour? So many questions.
Rose once again makes selection. I have no clue why.
meant disappointment
Peter de Villiers and Oregan Hoskins are liars. At least Cheeky Watson would have the balls to tell the truth.
aaaaaaaah yes, tighthead
i see you provided your own escape clause
… the senior players thingy again, nê?
Ash my man, you are reading things into what I have said that are not there.
Every international team in the world depends on their senior players for leadership and motivation.
This will be even more important for us on a tour that the senior players do not need on their tired bodies.
