The Lions have named one injury forced change to the side that will face the Pumas in Nelspruit on Friday.
Captain Joshua Strauss has been bracketed with Warren Whiteley in the starting line up. If Strauss does start, he will captain the side, but if not, Cobus Grobbelaar will captain the side. Doppies La Grange will start off the bench and also cover 9 as coach John Mitchell again opts for a 5/2 bench split. Jaco Kriel retains his place on the bench. A final decision will be made on Josh Strauss’ fitness on Thursday.
This side is a strong indication that the MTN Golden Lions will not be taking this fixture lightly, beacuse the Pumas are a team that on their day can beat any team in the Currie Cup, and have proven to be a side that does not respect log position or reputation.
MTN Golden Lions:
15 Jaco Taute, 14 Deon van Rensburg, 13 Lionel Mapoe, 12 Alwyn Hollenbach, 11 Michael Killian, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Michael Bondesio, 8 Warren Whiteley/Joshua Strauss, 7 Michael Rhodes, 6 Cobus Grobbelaar, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Wikus van Heerden, 3 Patric Cilliers, 2 Bandise Maku, 1 JC Janse van Rensburg. Replacements: 16 Martin Bezuidenhout, 17 Jacobie Adriaanse, 18 Johan Snyman, 19 Warren Whiteley/Joshua Strauss, 20 Jaco Kriel, 21 Doppies La Grange, 22 Burton Francis.
Go Lions, make me proud!!
@ Lion4ever:
They will
Lions looking good, definately favourites to win the CC in my opinion.
Just confirmed by Josh on Twitter. Whitely will be starting and Josh will play off the bench
The Lions mustn’t get sucked in to playing the Pumas type of game tonight. If they do they could end up with the sharp end of the stick.
Run them ragged I say. Cheetahs showed last week that when the ball is given air, the Pumas can’t stay with the pace.
IF th Lions play the right type of game, this should be a good win for them.
True, Scrumdown. The Lions need to spread the ball wide, but not in reckless abandon. We need to play good phase rugby, suck the defenders in, because they just do not have the personnel that will keep patience on defence. We must also not allow them to antaganise us with their negative play.
