Sharks coach John Plumtree says he may not pick some of his Springboks returning for this weekend’s Currie Cup action.

The Sharks take on Griquas in Kimberley on Friday.

SARU on Monday released a group of 23 players involved in the Springboks’ preliminary Rugby World Cup squad to do duty for their provinces in the Currie Cup this weekend.

Adrian Jacobs, Patrick Lambie, Charl McLeod, Lwazi Mvovo, Odwa Ndungane, Alistair Hargreaves and Ryan Kankowski will be available for selection.

However, Plumtree says he is more than happy with the current crop of players at his disposal.

“I’m hoping we’ll get some reinforcements back to be able to give us a bit of a boost, but I’m really happy with the way this group is going, so if they can prove to me that they can keep playing like this, then some reputations might be sitting on the bench or not even playing, and that’s what you want,” Plumtree told Sharks website editor, Michael Marnewick.

“We’re pretty comfortable with this 22 at the moment. Unless there are some injuries, I don’t think I’ll be changing too much and they’ve got to keep proving to me that they can do it. Griquas is always a tough challenge for us, but it’s how we adapt and what we throw at them that really counts.”

To be honest, Plum won’t miss most of them.

Adi Jacobs, Alistair Hargreaves and Kankowski to my mind is no better than those in the current side…
Lambie has an able Michalak covering for him.
Charl McLeod has that blonde youngster, Ross Cronje, covering at scrummie… maybe one of the best performers in the whole Currie Cup so far.
In Odwa’s place is the blonde rocket, Mark Richards, who I have been tremendously impressed with.
On the other wing they have Sibusiso Sithole who has filled Mvovo’s shoes more than adequately.

So, I guess old Plum IS right!

Compare that to what the Bulls will get back:
Dean Greyling & Werner Kruger at prop…. miles ahead of the 2 guys that did duty in their absense.
Chiliboy Ralepelle…. now already much, much better than Gary Botha
Flip van der Merwe…. much, much better than Fudge Mabeta or Juandre Kruger for that matter…. but is’nt Flip injured?
Deon Stegmann…. a vast improvement over Derick Kuun
Wynand Olivier…. so much better than any of the 2 Stefan’s
Bjorn Basson…. better than either Shadow or Aikona
Zane Kirchner…. much better than Jurgen Visser

Suddenly the team could start looking good, apart from our woes at scrummie & flyhalf….
