Canterbury has officially launched their revolutionary new jersey that will be worn by the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand later this year.
(Take note, the picture on the left and the picture on the right are just cartoons and DO NOT APPEAR on the jersey!)
SA Rugby official web site:
The shirt incorporates gold detailing and iconic victory dates on the right arm as well as featuring the new Loop 21 collar design and latest fabric technology. It provides the Boks with the best possible on-field support in what is the strongest jersey that Canterbury has ever produced.
Jurie Roux, CEO of SARU, said: “The Springboks were extensively involved in the design of the jersey and in its testing and assessment of its epical features and they were more than happy with the outcome. A rugby jersey is one of the key tools of a player’s trade and having one that works to give them that fractional advantage on the field is another way of maximising their ability to perform.”
Throughout months of research and development, the Loop 21 neckline was tested to destruction by Progressive Sports Technologies (one of the leading Sports Technology institutes based at Loughborough University) to ensure maximum strength and durability. Advances in temex and the use of LYCRA® SPORT fabric provide improved sweat evaporation, enhanced freedom of movement and superior shape retention. The construction of the jersey and fabric positioning improve player’s ability to evade tackles and provide position support to enhance movement.
Chris Stephenson, Canterbury CEO, commented: “The new kit is our most sophisticated to date and as always, we have relished the challenge to release a tougher yet lighter jersey that will be showcased at this year’s Rugby World Cup. We are proud to be associated with South Africa throughout the Rugby World Cup and it is our privilege to support them in the best way we can, with what we believe is the best jersey a player can wear. We look forward to seeing them in action in New Zealand later this year.”
Fans have their opportunity to purchase the RWC 2011 Jersey from www.canterbury.com as well as selected retailers from today onwards. This also includes the new national jersey featuring the new Springboks sponsor, ABSA
Lets just call them the Proteas and get it over and done with.
Do you like the 2 Cartoons at the top?
There is still a Springbok on the FRONT of the Bokke jersey… can’t you see it browsing behind the protea bush?
Hehehe
Does’nt the Canterbury Logo remind you of the game Pacman?
They probably ate the Springbok…. wait… no, the Springbok is hiding from Pacman on the left sleave… cunning!
Stem biltongbek, sal altyd die Springbok bly in my hart
Why can they not imbed a big Sringbok on the front panel, just vary the green.
If Canterbury swopped their logo with the Bok on the sleeve i would have bought this jersey immediately.
@ superBul:7 – Super, Agree. Canterbury should have moved their logo to the sleeve. I said it awhile back on keo as well, when the new jersey was shown there. Would have made sense.
Now it does look like the massive protea is chewing away at our Bok.. 🙁
I am not gonna buy a new jersey. Will just wear my old one. Why waste R850 on this jersey when we have one already? Will wear my 2007 jersey. Have had a few and everytime the sponsor’s name changes. So this one I have now will have to do. Also have a Bok t-shirt that says South Africa with the Springbok on it. That will do as well. Cause come October here in Durbs it will be quite hot. So probably my Bok t-shirt will do me. Will not waste anymore money on buying a new jersey, when I already have one.
Will only ever and for always be the Springboks to me. A dimunition of the bok brand. Contemporary design, but lacking the most important logo in the most visual position. Sad.
@ Puma:
Well believe it or not i dont have any jersey of the Bulls, the Boks, the All Blacks  , nothing. I feel that they are totally overprized.
@ superBul:
Hear Hear.
Every time a new sponsor or logo comes along a new jersey.
The Lions have had 3 Jerseys in 3 years, never mind the Golden Lions.
It’s no wonder that there are so much pirate merchandise available on the street.
Mind you, the Lions stuff sells so poorly they still have the Canterbury S14 jersey with SAA as a sponsor on the streets. Only 4 years old!
