A bit better for me this weekend in terms of the SuperBru picks. Got 4/6 right, with the Sharks and the Stormers (second week in a row!) letting my picks down, although I am extremely happy for getting the Stormers pick wrong! If this is going to be the trend, picking the Stormers game wrong time and again, I will pick them to lose every game from now on!

The Sharks are in trouble. They got shellshocked by a severe Bulls bashing early on in the game, and could not even secure their own lineout balls! This is THE KEY area where the Sharks lost the plot on the weekend, and one area where John Smit definitely overshadows Bismarck du Plessis. Despite Bismarck’s try, losing the lineouts was the crucial factor which cost them the game in the end. Yes, the Bulls outplayed the Sharks in all areas of the game, even the scrums, and to me the most exciting thing about the Bulls was Gerhard van den Heever at full back! Please Bulls, for all things sane, keep Gerhard van den Heever RIGHT THERE!!! Sideshow Bob has zero impact at fullback and has none of the counterattacking capabilities as Shadow showed on the weekend!

I am angry at the Bulls for letting Fourie du Preez play on, despite a serious injury in the first half. He was clearly in discomfort after his knee and ankle got smashed bending his knee backward!! They should have taken him off early and made sure he doesn’t aggravate his injury. They are saying two weeks, but heck, a knee will stuff you around, and those two weeks may become the whole year if they do not smother him with appropriate rehabilitation!

World Cup or Bulls? Yes, we know you have a Super Rugby Title to win, but the World Cup is far more important to South Africans than this silly little “Secondary Currie Cup” competition!

SANZAR should actually cite the Bulls management for their clear disregard for a national treasure! Not Benjamin!

“SANZAR should actually cite the Bulls management for their clear disregard for a national treasure!”

A bit of self indulgence there old superBul?

Do you really think de Preez is the best #9 in the country at the moment? Admittedly he must go to the WC, but on current form surely Sarel Pretorius has to be the number one SH?

This Article was originally part of the Benjamin Article, so I cut it and placed this on it’s own, not connected to the Benjamin debacle. It is a totally seperate matter indeed!

… and of course had to clean up the language in the piece… we just do not put crude language in Articles… comments of course is another story, there we are more relaxed.

I cannot possibly check every sentence in Articles or even all Articles, so stick to the rule!

But anyway, well played Bulls, and even the Stormers who showed some rather large testes in winning on Friday.

I think all Stormers supporters should thank the ref’ for asking the TMO the right question, because if he had asked “Try / No try?” I think you may well have come up short.

Cheetahs played well enough to beat the Rebels convincingly, Sharks showed some rather large cracks against a Bulls team that are hitting their straps and looking very professional at just the right time, and the Lions, well WTF can I say. “We won the second half!” Manie must be as happy as a boy scout that just received his knot tying badge.

All in all, from doom and gloom regarding the SA Super Rugby franchises after a few weeks of competition, things are all going swimmingly well and the Bok outlook for the WC looks much better.

    Huh?

@Gbs..Well, I did censor out the word d##s….I will take due caution in future.

@Scrumdown#1. It would have made more sense in the original context but it was seperated from the original article.

I do think Fourie is still the best in the country. Pretorius is quicker but he still lacks that “rounded off” style of play…one that oozes with experience and competence like Fourie’s.

    Oh, you wrote it… hehehe

Then you will have to be credited as Author… sorry, did not know.

I must be having a “Lions Moment”.

  • 8

    7@ Scrumdown:
But on the other hand, the Lions don’t have “moments”, they have seasons. Or should that be decades?

  • 9

The Lions are still building their “moment”…:)

Gotta believe it’s gonna be a big one when it finally arrives.

Perhaps they should let the Lions and Southern Kings join forces.

The way I see it the Lion is the king of the jungle.

So the Lions from the Lions and the Kings from the Southern Kings makes the Lion King.

    …………

Sounds like the title of a movie, doesn’t it.

    11@ biltongbek:
Don’t agree. The Lions should just get automatically relegated like in Soccer.

They honestly are not good enough to be in this competition and that is a fact, not just my opinion.

It seems almost to me as if the Lions think they have a “right” to be playing Super Rugby, but the results suggest otherwise.

Whether the Kings will fare any better is also irrelevant. Give them a fair crack. Maybe they’ll prove all of the doom sayers (and there were a few of them this weekend) wrong and win a few games.

    @ Scrumdown #13
Only fair solution is to let things flow naturally! Kings shouldn’t get a free ride! For what reason, should they get a crack?

If the kings wnat to make a fist of getting into Super rugby, let them play themselves into the CC Premier Division, and then beat the lowest ending S15 franchise in a promo/relegation match.

True the Lions have been awfull, but the Kings haven’t exactly played the VC alight either. And the VC is a few nothches lower then S15!
