Kurtley Beale has signed for the Melbourne Rebels on a two year deal, for 2012 & 2013.

The Wallaby game breaker seems to be in sublime form at present and it has also been announced that Beale has re-committed to the Australian Rugby Union.

Beale, the 22-year old made his Test debut in 2009, during the End Of Year Tour, in the last match on tour.

He has played 14 Tests and during 2010 was nominated as a finalist for the IRB’s “Player of the year” award.

Australia National coach, Robbie Deans, was thrilled with the news and Beale acknowled that he had other options to consider as well but said he felt he still had too much he wanted to achieve in Rugby Union before looking to settle elsewhere. He cited the reason that he wanted to be as consistent as he could be as a Test player and to be “A Good Wallaby”.

“I grew up with Rugby League, and it’s no secret that I enjoy it, but the last year and a half of my rugby career has been pretty special and I wasn’t  ready to give up the chance to continue with that.

“To wear our national jersey in some amazing stadiums and against some tough international teams is the best feeling I’ve had in sport. Sharing that experience alongside so many of my mates was also something I took into my consideration about this career choice.

“The vibe on the year-end tour last year was great. We all feel that we are on the verge of something special with the Wallabies, and the team is so young, we’re only all going to get better if we can keep it together, and carry on improving. I think we all feel that we can take the Wallabies back to the top and I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to share in what hopefully is going to be another golden era.”

“I am really excited about joining the Rebels, not only is it the right move for my rugby but it will also give me the chance to contribute positively to the community.

“However, now that the decision has been made I want to make it clear that I will be 100 percent committed to the Waratahs for the remainder of the season.  My absolute priority is to do everything I can to help the Waratahs achieve success in 2011,” Beale said.

Robbie Deans said, “Kurtley’s always  had talent – that much was evident from his schoolboy career – but he is becoming a better rounded footballer now.”

“He has identified his areas of need and worked hard on them, developing better habits and improving his core skills. That has already shown through in his work in the Test arena to date. When you look at where Kurtley was two years ago, to where he is now, he is a totally different player. The positive is that, at his age, Kurtley is in a position where he should only get even better as his experience and belief grows.”

“Kurtley has always had the ability to make things happen,” Deans said.

“The key growth area ahead for him is being able to eradicate dips in his standards, so that he is able to consistently exert a high level of influence on any matches in which he features.”

South Africans will remember Beal for his long distance penalty goal last year, which sunk the Springboks after the final hooter had gone, in Bloemfontein.

Beale is one of those versatile backline players who can play fullback, wing and even flyhalf and finished the 2010 season as 2nd top try scorer fr the Wallabies.

Beale is now already the 12th Wallaby to re-confirm their futures beyond 2011 in Rugby Union and with the Wallabies. Yesterday Nathan Sharpe als re-confirmed his allegiances.
