Jonathan Mokuena, the fiercely inspired leader of the Griekwas, may be running out for the Lions in 2010.
His contract with the Girekwas Union expires this year and the Lions Union are apparantly keen to make use of his services, he is one of many on the Lions’ shopping list.
One has to feel for Griekwas, after every Currie Cup season, their stars are offered contracts from the bigger Unions and they have to start building from scratch again. Mokuena being one such player, has really stood out this season and his value has shot up.
Manie Reyneke, the executive officer of the Golden Lions Rugby Union, has neither confirmed nor denied the rumour.
He said that negotiations with quite a few players are still being handled by the player agents.
Mokuena will apparantly not hesitate to relocate to JHB to join Tonderaai Chavanga as one of the Lions new acquisitions.
Hierdie is ‘n Jan wat Kan!!!
Well I do see what Morne was talking about the otherday. The smaller unions just lose out all the time. No way to really build our rugby here.
If Lions do get Mokuena they are getting a very talented player with Chavanga. Anyhow good luck to my 2nd team for next year. Of course this Saturday too. Go LIONS..
The carrot is out there from the big 5 and until the griquas are eligible for s14 this will always be the case.
@Onerb – kwas staat en griffons is gelyke partners in s14 span dis net die naam cheetahs wat vir benarking gekies is omdat dit bekender is.dis hoe dit was in 2005 toe hulle gewen het bokant die spears
Feit
Mokoena is a great player, and will be an asset, but I am wondering if we are not buying too many loosies?
