Jake White, who has been consulting with the Lions in this season’s Currie Cup, caused quite an uproar within the Griquas’ camp when he contacted Griquas lock Jacques Lombard and enquired whether he would be interested in being Simon Shaw’s lock partner in next season’s Super 14.
Lombard recently extended his contract with the Kimberley team to 2011, but this doesn’t prevent him from negotiating with the Lions to play for them in the Super 14. This caused quite a disruption in the Griquas’ preparation for saturday’s clash against the Blue Bulls, as Lombard has been negotiating with his own union while the rest of the side have been preparing for saturday’s clash.
Lombard has been one of the stand out players for the Griquas in their very successful Currie Cup campaign. He is a contender to play for the Cheetahs in the 2010 Super 14, but the prospect of pairing up with the likes of Shaw, must be a huge drawing card for the young star.
With Jake White making the call to young Lombard, this could be an indication that he is in the running for the Lions’ Super 14 coaching position, a position that has received a couple of impressive applications.

Die see? Wel Natal is nie so ver nie.

@SA Barbarians – Yes :beer:
Al gehoor van die Drakensberge? Tafelbergie kan nie rerig kersvashou nie.
BUT, ek dink die hele RSA is mooi. Very underrated.
Grap sommer.. hehehe

More Ash lekker dag in die Kaap nê?
Think it would be fantastic for young Lombard to be able to play in the Super 14 and i am sure it would be a dream come true for him and knowing he is getting recognition for playing well.
Wait until the S H A R K S buy young Dewalt Potgieter then there will be gnashing of teeth and plenty snot and trane. 😥
40@SA Barbarians –
net so bru
@Ashley – 43
My Natalse besoekers reken mos droë wyn is sleg en suur! Faaark!!! 🙂
