It has been rumoured that the Lions and Province are in talks with Lote Tuqiri.
After Tuqiri lost his contract with the Australian Rugby union, he has been linked to French Club Toulon.
“I’m talking to French club Toulon and may even be playing against the boys next year in South Africa in the Super 14”
It seems that the Lions and Province can’t stop bumping heads. These two unions are also currently in a dispute over the services of Springbok centre Jaque Fourie.

Stormers not after Tuqiri
Article By:
WP Rugby Pty (Ltd) Managing Director Rob Wagner has quashed reports suggesting that discarded Wallabies wing, Lote Tuqiri, could be on his way to Cape Town to play for the Stormers in next year’s Super 14.
Australian media on Sunday reported that Tuqiri is in the process of negotiating a deal with the Cape franchise ahead of the 2010 Super 14.
Tuqiri’s Wallaby contract was torn up by the Australian Rugby Union for an apparent breach of discipline in July this year but he has been weighing up a number of lucrative offers since.
He’s considering a return to Rugby League and there are offers in Wales, Japan while several French clubs are also reportedly chasing the dual code international’s signature.
“I’m talking to Toulon and I might even be playing against the boys next year in South Africa [in the] Super 14,” Tuqiri said while commentating on Australian club rugby at the weekend.
“We will wait and see. A lot of things have to happen before that.”
Western Province senior professional coach, Rassie Erasmus, has made a string of acquisitions in 2009 with All Black lock Chris Jack, Lions lock Anton van Zyl and Aussie youngster Matt Toomua all joining WP during this year’s Currie Cup campaign. Bulls and Springbok speedster, Bryan Habana, is also on his way to the Mother City.
However,Wagner told this website on Monday that the former Waratahs wing is not on the franchise’s wishlist and there has been no talks between either parties.
He stressed that Tuqiri’s acquisition is pure specualation.
“It’s absolute nonsense,” Wagner told us when asked about the possibility of Tuqiri joining the Cape franchise.
“I don’t know where they got that. He [Tuqiri] certainly hasn’t spoken to anybody at Western Province.”

Ospreys targeting Lote Tuqiri?
Sun, 27 Sep 2009 11:47
The Ospreys, according to the Wales on Sunday publication, are set to swoop for Australian international wing Lote Tuqiri after the former Waratahs star failed to agree a deal with Bayonne in the French Top 14.
With the future of Gavin Henson still uncertain, the Ospreys are believed to be considering making an offer for the versatile 67-time capped Wallaby and getting him on board as soon as possible.
Having had a disappointing start to the new season, the Ospreys relieved some of the pressure on them with a 26-16 win over Glasgow but will be without a number of their international starts in November due to their players commitments with Wales, Ireland and Scotland – encouraging them to look for top class cover.
Director of Rugby at the Ospreys, Scott Johnson is of course a former Australian skills coach and, according to a source at the club, his presence at the region would be a big selling point for Tuqiri.
“Lote is set on moving to the northern hemisphere game, but is trying to decide precisely what is right for him,” said the source to Wales on Sunday.
“Whether that is Wales and the Ospreys we will have to see, but they are certainly an attractive proposition with the quality that they already have in their squad.
“Lote would fit in well in an environment like the one they have. And the chance to work with Scott Johnson would be a factor in his decision.”
Top 14 powerhouse Stade Francais were also rumoured to be considering making an approach for the dual code international after his deal with Bayonne fell through but nothing, at this point in time, has been publically confirmed from either side.
A high-profile figure, Tuqiri would no doubt bring a vast amount of power and experience to the Ospreys squad but, at the same time, would not come cheaply.
