Springbok Sevens coach Paul Treu has added four players to the squad ahead of the SA Sevens tournament in George on Friday and Saturday.

Paul Delport, Jacques Engelbrecht, Steven Hunt and Chris Dry were added to the squad which won the plate final in the first leg of the IRB World Sevens Series in Dubai at the weekend.

Renfred Dazel was to undergo a scan on Monday after a blow to the head against the United States on Saturday forced him to leave the field on a stretcher.

“We are taking every possible precaution and our medical team will continue to monitor Renfred during the next couple of days,” Treu said.

He had called up the extra players to increase his options for the home tournament.

“I have until Thursday to finalise the squad and that gives us a bit more time to work with some options,” he said.

“The players have all settled in very nicely and the guys are looking forward to playing in front of their home fans.”

Their 19-12 victory over Australia in the plate final in Dubai had “lifted” the players and Treu said they wanted to build on their momentum.

“We had a gym and pool session today and will take it easy over the next few days because of the quick turnaround time between the two tournaments.”

One Response to Treu adds 4 to Blitzbokke for George

What I saw of them last weekend was as miserable as the 15’s EOYT.

I was really contemplating making the trek to George this weekend, but I honestly think they have about as much chance of winning this weekend as the Poms have of getting some suntanning in before Christmas.

No, the “Blitsbokke” were very disappointing the last 13 months.
