England prop Joe Marler has avoided any sanction for striking an opponent during his side’s RBS 6 Nations win over Wales at Twickenham.
A Six Nations disciplinary committee found he struck prop Rob Evans in the 15th minute of Saturday’s match.
But it said in a statement: “The disciplinary committee found that the offending would not have warranted a Red Card and so imposed no sanction.”
Marler could now play in England’s final game against France on Saturday.
However, that could still be in doubt as the 25-year-old Harlequins forward may yet face action for calling Wales prop Samson Lee “Gypsy boy” in the same game.
Marler apologised to Lee – who is from the Traveller community – for that comment, and Lee has said he accepted the apology as “banter”.
However, England coach Eddie Jones and Wales coach Warren Gatland have been criticised for using that same term to describe Marler’s comments.
Gatland has since issued an apology for causing any offence.
England have already won the RBS 6 Nations with a game to spare and they can still win a 1st Grand Slam since 2003, with victory at the Stade de France.

Think he got away with this, to me a clear motion to wind up and then put the elbow into Rob Evans face while he Evans was on the ground unable to do anything to stop it.
And so the mind games start…

Where is the consistency?
Warwick Tecklenburg gets a week ban for a similar offence that would also not have gotten him a red card.
World Rugby / IRB / SANZAR really need to get the judicial processes sorted out.
It’s a circus at the moment. (And all of the monkies have whistles!)
4 @ Scrumdown:
Hi Scrumdown, there is none (consistency that is). Do you have a link to video that shows the Tecklenburg incident, maybe I am tougher on foul play that the judges but if his was similar to Marler then he was lucky to only get one week ban and Marler was even luckier to get off scot free. The Marler one was missed during the game so his team didn’t even get a penalty against them as far as I am aware. Were the Lions penalised at the time for Tecklenburg incident, did he get a yellow card in the game?
