Nick de Jager
The Vodacom Blue Bulls have signed Saracens loose forward Nick de Jager on a 1-year contract with immediate effect.
De Jager, the former Maties No 8 who left South Africa to join Saracens 2 years ago, has been signed as loose forward cover for the ABSA Currie Cup season and joined the team on Monday to start with his new side.
De Jager is a big, powerful ball carrier and is highly rated, with Saracens releasing him to continue his development in Pretoria and hopefully get some game time ahead of next year’s Vodacom Super Rugby season.
While the Blue Bulls have SA Under 20 captain Hanro Liebenberg, De Jager will add some depth to the team after the news that Arno Botha injured his meniscus and had to undergo surgery on Monday, ruling him out for at least 4 weeks.
De Jager made his debut for Saracens in 2013, becoming man of the match in his 1st game and has been a consistent team member ever since. He was also a member of Maties’ Sevens team that won bronze at the World Student Games in Kazan, Russia, in 2013.
At 1.93m and 112kg, he is hoping to make an impression in Pretoria in the near future.
