Brumbies prop Scott Sio, if selected, will run out for his 50th Super Rugby match in Saturday’s sudden death Super Rugby semifinal against the Hurricanes.
At just 23, Sio has proved to be one of the competition’s best loosehead props since debuting for the Brumbies in 2012.
While proud of reaching the milestone, Sio says his focus right now is helping his team in Wellington on Saturday.
“It’s a great occasion but I think the strength of our team is that we never really focus on individual accolades,” said Sio.
“They’ve always been a part of rugby and it is a great part, but we understand that to be able to celebrate something like that we need to go out and do our job on the weekend.
“We’re up against a tough outfit this weekend in the Hurricanes, so I won’t be looking for anything special, just to do my job out there.”
The son of former Samoan Test prop Tevita ‘David’ Sio, Scott is in his fourth season with the Brumbies, he has already been called up to the Wallabies on five occasions and is hoping for a call-up to the World Cup Squad when it’s announced in a few weeks’ time.
Scott’s younger brother Pat signed with Stade Français earlier this year and has now left to begin his career in France.
Sio’s relatives are expected to be in the crowd on Saturday night for the match against the Hurricanes.
After scoring a try in last week’s 39-19 win over the Stormers, Sio says he’s expecting a tough match in front of a packed Wellington Stadium against the competition front-runners.
He says the players are well-prepared for the match in Wellington, following the long-flight home from South Africa earlier this week.
“One of the things we can draw on is 2013 and knowing how close we came and being in such a similar situation.
“No matter how your finals go, you’ve got to make the final somehow and this path is ours.
