The Brumbies are following protocol regarding the concussion of flank David Pocock in the hopes that he will be available for their must-win game against the DHL Stormers on Saturday.

Pocock was taken out of the Crusaders game just before halftime on Saturday, after he copped a knock to the head from a Richie McCaw cleanout at the breakdown.

The Brumbies No 7 stayed down for several seconds, but played on for about 5 minutes before coming off.

“After a concussion someone should rest up for a day or so and then they can start a very graduated program of physical activity… because we do know just returning to non-contact exercise can potentially exacerbate symptoms,” Australian Institute of Sport chief medical officer David Hughes said.

“Sometimes even people just doing things like reading computers and doing cognitive tasks such as reading or concentrating can exacerbate their symptoms.

“If someone’s had a pretty uncomplicated concussion where they really didn’t have any symptoms the following day then they can potentially return to sport in about 6 days or so.

“It appears to me, as an external observer, that the Brumbies are following best practice in relation to how they manage concussion.”

Brumbies’ coach Stephen Larkham expected Pocock to be fine to play in their play-off against the Stormers.

The Brumbies have taken a 25-man squad to Cape Town, which included all of the game-day 23 from the Crusaders game plus back Nigel Ah Wong and prop Les Makin.

It would be absolutely shocking if the stormers lost this game now

  • 2

Hahaha…getting your knives sharpened already in case they lose?

The Brumbies ain’t no one man team.

  • 3

    Pocock for Vermeulen.

    Fair trade.

  • 4

    @ Nama:
What? The brumbies are obviously at a big disadvantage playing away from home… You already have your excuses sorted, that its all meyers fault 😆

Pocock has probably been the form open sider for the last few weeks, and in those few weeks he has been crucial to the team. I would actually liken the player for player trade value in the team to that of the greek.

    @ MacroPolo:
Yeah…if it wasn’t for his “training camp” we would’v been able to train the whole week with the squad to face the Lions (and beat them). Played with a full strength team against the Sharks and beat them and people like you would’nt have something to say about or 7th position because we would’ve ended up in 2nd place on the log. Pleasure

    Damn that HM!

    @ Nama:
    Haha setting benchmarks!

    @ MacroPolo:
I’m pretty sure te Stormers have lost every game that Duanne has missed, could be wrong but I can’t be arsed to do the research lol..

    @ MacroPolo:
Can’t wait for the gnashing of teeth and crying of tears (about our log position) when we host the final at Newlands against the Highlanders in a few weeks’ time. Sommer take revenge for 1999 and be crowned champs.

Good sendoff for AC and Vermeulen for wonderful services rendered over the years. Wink

Stormers will lose on the weekend. I watched the Lions game (at Newlands) and I have unfortunate visions of a repeat, with worse results. I am sorry but our SA teams have collectively hit a low point this year.
The Baby Boks yesterday, were ‘owned’ by the Poms in the set pieces. The game was lost right there. Their backline was better than ours. Pretty much sums up our rugby across the board.
    We need a new template.

@ Nama: In your dreams Nama. If that happens, I want your address and I’ll personally deliver a bottle of the Cape’s best bubbles to celebrate with you. And I’m prepared to fill up the 180 lit tank to get there. 🙁

@ MacroPolo: what disadvantages? They did it last time didn’t they(without Pocock)? Travel isn’t everything. Quality usually prevails.

    @ Tassies:
One can still dream, at least. Unlike some other supporters.

But I think it is quite possible that the Stormers can beat the Brumbies on Saturday (already did it this year) and the Tahs away (already did it this year)

Highlanders can beat the Chiefs at home (already did it this year) and surprise the Canes away from home.

    Man, that would be awesome!

Highly improbable in both cases, I admit.

haha i can sure already sense a gnashing of teeth 😉

    @ Tassies:
I am sure you guys will win this weekend at least, you honestly have a fairly good chance this year, albeit away from home, at the worst you only have to play 1 NZ team out of the 3 games as the NZ teams have to take each other out before the final.

  • 16

    @ MacroPolo:
Well if you want to be the best you have to beat the best.

Or at least the teams that come your way…..

  • 17

    @ Stormersboy:
it wont take away from the accomplishment, the opportunity has presented itself, just like the 2007 RWC.

Peyper is blowing the Stormers v Brumbies…..Hondo will be thrilled

  • 19

    @ MacroPolo:
Nah… just a wringing of hands in anticipation and nervousnes 😉 😉

    haha so will you 😉

    @ MacroPolo:
Who knows, maybe he eers on the side of caution lest he be accused of bias?

Highlanders vs Chiefs at Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin
    Referee: Chris Pollock (New Zealand)
Assistant referees: Nick Briant (New Zealand), Mike Fraser (New Zealand)
Television match official: Aaron Paterson (New Zealand)
    Stormers vs Brumbies at Newlands
    Referee: Jaco Peyper (South Africa)
Assistant referees: Craig Joubert (South Africa), Jason Jaftha (South Africa)
Television match official: Deon van Blommestein (South Africa)

  • 22

    @ nortie:
    Errs not eers

Can’t understand why they don’t use neutral refs though

  • 23

    @ MacroPolo:
Lets wait and see. I am hopeful, but the game is played on the field, on the day and we seen that anything can happen. And usually does.

Still there’s no denying that I will be very disappointed if we fail at this juncture.

  • 24

@ MacroPolo: Brumbies maybe. Big maybe. If we couldn’t deal with the Lions(at home) recently then how can we be sure we’ll manage against the Brumbies without the services of Vermeulen? They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at Newlands last time if you’ll recall. The difference was a pole.

  • 25

    @ Tassies:
the point is your odds are considerably better than it would be if you played in Canberra.

  • 26

I can already hear old Ben die Bittere Bul complaining about Peyper should he dare to award the Stormers 2 penalties in a row on Saturday Tounge-Out

  • 27

    @ robzim:
haha, we will have to look at it on merit, but no doubt, some of you silently fist pumped at Peypers announcement. 😉

  • 28

    9 @ Nama:
The Stormers hosting a final from 7th position would actually be quite comical 😆 I dont think SANZAR ever thought that far when setting up the conference system, Highlanders are still dark horses, with the Hurricanes that will probably choke.

Personally I am no fan of the man but he is certainly better than Rohan Hoffman 🙂

And a 19-5 penalty count, Mr Berry.

Helped cost us the Aussie Conference
