    @ grootblousmile:
I look at this way Groot,
50 odd thousand people have paid maybe US140.00 a ticket to watch this Contest.
That’s US7.5 million dollars, WR have cheated the paying public.

There has to be a better way………………………it’s not rocket science, just rugby.

  • 35

Talking about the Red Card… it is high time World Rugby makes it possible to replace a RED CARDED player after 10 minutes, so as not to take the contest out of the whole match.

Sure, Red Card the player… ban him for some games… but do not over-punish the whole team, let the contest of the game at least continue.

    England 15 / 3 Los Pumas

    Halftime

  • 45

England has only given away 13 points in total so far in the whole Rugby World Cup 2019!

  • 46

    2nd Half ON!

On the Pumas faces, the mist of failure can already be seen.

  • 47

Pumas penalty, deep in their own half…

    Exactly Groot.
And Nigel (God Bless him) talked us right through the process.

However ……………………….These cards are ruining this WC.

Hi Gbs and Cane, sorry but I disagree respectfully with you guys. The players in the first place are the ones commiting the offences so blame them for the money/entertainment loss etc. the coaching staff also play a role as they should be making sure their players are not playing filthy. The big problem for me is the lack of consistency there has been – for me not enough filthy play has been properly dealt with, especially early on in the tournament and so this ‘set the standard’ but now they are clamping down on things a bit more at times but still missing incidents or interpreting them differently depening on who the match officials are. Refs need to be competent but they only have 2 eyes and a lot goes on so it is also up to the touch judges and especially TMOs to deal with things better. I know there is probably bias – subconscious or not – towards a ref as a viewer when one’s team wins but I thought Wayne Barnes did a really good job yesteday in the Boks v Italy game apart from missing a possible high tackle by Kolbe. What was also good was his communication explaining things to the captains and in his discussions with TMO this was really good for the game itself and also for helping educate us all especially any potential new viewers.

To cut a long story short the game needs to be made safer, there are laws in place to help with this they just need to apply them properly. So if a team has a player who is willing to commit an offence they have to take it as a team in the same way as the opposition could suffer the loss of a player for a game or subsequent big games, not to mention how the player’s club may struggle if the player is injured and out for a long time etc.
I think a consequence (possibly unintended) of your suggestion Gbs of another player being allowed back on after 10 minutes is that it could encourage more cynical play. As far as I am concerned wouldn’t mind to see a game ending with few players on the field if that is what is required, I think that will soon decrease the foul play etc and focus the players and coaches minds, although certainly the World Cup is probably not the place for this given all the high stakes variables. There is a lot of negative coverage of our game in certain circles up here and with some of the foul incidents it becomes harder to ignore or argue against them, the biggest financial contributors to the game are in the 6 Nations so World Rugby needs to pay attention even if only from a commercial point of view, even more so from a player welfare point of view.

Try George Ford, England… bonus point!

  • 50

    England 22 / 3 Los Pumas

  • 51

    Ford with a brilliant touchfinder…

    5m Defensive Pumas lineout.

    48 @ Bullscot:
    I hear you Bully…

But you must remember, Rugby is and always has been a GLADATORIAL type of game…

Let me make an analogy… and I am fully aware that my analogy is baseless and simplifying things beyond reason… but it still applies…

In boxing (which is also a gladatorial sport), just because repeated punching in the face might cause injuries and brain damage, should all punches to the head now suddenly be banned for the safety of the participants?? What would follow, banning punches to the body too… so that we end up with 2 healthy athletes just dancing around each other whilst looking furious??

Rugby is supposed to be hard, furious and a true contest, not a sham or a sissies game… and neither does it need to be made safer to the extent that it is no longer the game of rugby we have watched over the decades.

If I wanted touch rugby, I would have started a touch rugby site…

    Penalty slotted for England.

    England 25 / 3 Los Pumas

  • 54

  • 55

    England scrum Free Kick…

    An up-and-under kick is taken…

  • 56

Cubelli off injured for Los Pumas, to add to their woes.

  • 57

20 Minutes to go in the match.

  • 58

22 Points deficit, with 17 minutes to go… which means the match is just going through the motions…

  • 59

    Los Pumas scrum penalty…

  • 60

Itoje jumping into Boffelli whilst in the air… come on referee… be consistent!

Pumas penalty only… now where is the justice and consistency.

It just opens up needless debate about the game of rugby as a whole…
