There will be a minute of silence again before this game, to show respect for James Small… Springbok here of yesteryear… who passed away this week at the age of 50.
He is now the 4th member of the victorious 1995 Springbok team who won the Rugby World Cup, to have passed.
… following his coach, Kitch Christie, Reuben Kruger and Jost van der Westhuizen.
Players out on the field, showing their respect.
James Small first played for the Golden Lions (Transvaal) senior side whilst still at school, aged 18.
Game ON!
Kick-Off by the Lions!
Freegin Web Hosts cost me the 1st 15 minutes, sorry!
Golden Lions 7 / 7 Pumas
It looks like the short preparation and re-adjustment time of the teams who have played Super Rugby, is working against them!
The smaller teams have been together for 6 months, whilst the bigger unions have had 2 weeks to prepare.
Try Pumas, Le Roux Roets!
Golden Lions 7 / 14 Pumas
Lions shot at goal… easy one.
Missed sitter!!
Lions penalty again, this time they don’t go for posts…
Try Madosh Tambwe again, Golden Lions!
Golden Lions 14 / 14 Pumas
Lions getting into their stride now, it seems…
Little knock by the Pumas, 5m out… behind the ruck.
Good clearance by Shaun Reynolds.
Bigggg Pumas scrum, penalty!
Shot it is, from the 10m line.
Very few spectators at Emirates Airline Park…
Golden Lions 14 / 17 Pumas
Hooter goes, but one last lineout…

Last night, in the 1st Currie Cup Premier Division 2019 encounter, the Tafel Lager Griquas really put the Cell C Sharks to the sword in Durban… big win for them, bonus point and all.
Now, the Phakisa Pumas are leading away from home at halftime…
Is that an indication that without their Springboks, the big Unions are very vulnerable… or is it just the short preparation time and re-adjudgment?
The Currie Cup competition this season consists of only a single Round of matches between sides, so no both home and away against the same side.
So, there really is no breathing space… if you lose a game, you are already on the back foot for the remainder of the Competition.
Can the smaller Unions capitalize properly and maybe one of them takes the title?
I think the bigger Unions will only get better as the Currie Cup progresses…
2nd Half ON!
Try Tyrone Green, Golden Lions!
Golden Lions 21 / 17 Pumas
Pumas very kickable penalty, just outside the 22. Posts
Golden Lions 21 / 20 Pumas
Pumas penalty, Marnus Schoeman off his feet.
Pumas penalty advantage… and given.
TMO
No 4, Rhyno Herbst… late tackle and without the ball.
