The Cheetahs will face a tough start to life in the Guinness Pro14 as they kick off with two games against Irish opposition in Ireland. They are due to play their opening fixture on Friday the 1st of September against Ulster in Belfast and then play last season’s finalists Munster the following weekend.

The Kings start their PRO14 journey on the road in Wales against reigning Champions Scarlets during the weekend of 1st to 2nd September and then make the short hop to Gallway in Ireland to face Connacht the following weekend.

Both teams return home for the matches during the weekend of 15th to 16th September with the Cheetahs getting a bit of a reprieve as they host Italian team Zebre while things get tougher for the Kings as they play against Leinster in their first home game of the tournament.

The last weekend of September will see Bloemfontein play host to the Ospreys who will be the first Welsh team to make the overnight flight to South Africa in the PRO14. This is all if the scoop from a local publication ahead of the official fixture announcement next week is accurate.

If I understand how they intend doing the travelling schedule for teams visiting South African correctly and if this list is correct then fixtures for Sat 23 September should be : Southern Kings v Zebre; Toyota Cheetahs v Leinster. while for Sat 7 October : Southern Kings v Ospreys. Let’s see when the list is official released next week.

Got it wrong about Kings and Ospreys on the 7th probably. Forgot about the conference system and them being in different conferences which means they only play against each other once so either home or away not both, in this case it looks like the Kings will play the Ospreys away in Wales (or Osperylia as their fans say) and not in PE this season

Pity Pierre Spies retired, he could have done a good job for the Kings helping them settle in their first season of Pro14.

Fixtures due to be announced today, possibly, maybe, that is if PRO14 can get there act together and get a statement out, they will already have had the list for a while I guess as SA teams will need to plan to get visas etc so why not just release them.

Yesterday was a public holiday in Ireland, where PRO14 is run from, is possibly one of the reasons the fixtures weren’t announced then. Not all the games to be played will be announced initially, I think it is only rounds 1 to 13 they will announce, this was standard practice for PRO12 over the years, don’t know if its down to quite a complicated set up with a number of different broadcasters in various different countries being involved.
