Chiefs 6 / 34 B & I Lions
Big drubbing for the Chiefs….
Lions holding the Chiefs tryless so far…
7 Minutes to go in the match.
Jared Payne knocks a pass that would have been a try… pass was on his toes from Seymour though!
Lions looking really good here.
Test Series will be very interesting.
@ grootblousmile:
Lions backs looking good Groot.
4 Minutes left to play.
39 @ cane:
Yeah, the backs are starting to get it going…
Altogether all facets of Lions play looking good.
But the All Blacks forwards will test them, and there will be less space to manuevre in…
Seconds to go… Chiefs throwing everything at the Lions.
Chiefs penalty…
Hooter has gone…
Game over… great Lions win!
Chiefs (6) 6 / 34 (13) British & Irish Lions (Final Score)
In mitigation to the Chiefs… they missed 10 regular players…
Sad to hear that Doddie Weir has Motor Neuron Disease.
Big debate going on at the moment about the epidemic off the ball cheating going on in NZ rugby: http://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/international/93902278/lions-tour-mark-reason-cheating-off-the-ball-in-new-zealand-rugby-has-reached-epidemic-level
The blocking of players chasing kicks in particular, is the topic of conversation.
There is, however, more to it as indicated in the linked article.
I can still clearly remember Owen Franks charging repeatedly pass the collision points in 2009 to block/prevent/slow down the incoming Springboks to the breakdowns.
If you analyze some of the tries scored by NZ Super15 teams (especially those from set piece) you invariably notice to constant use of blocking runners to create holes in the defensive lines.
As South Africans (and probably all other opposing teams) we are well aware of these tactics and have been talking about it for years.
In a recent article Jonathan Kaplan admitted that referees are also aware of these ‘dark arts’ (http://i.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/all-blacks/93212249/referees-must-beware-of-the-all-blacks-dark-arts–ex-referee-jonathan-kaplan) of New Zealand rugby.
It is interesting then that it required an Kiwi coach (Gatland) to get the referees and media to start reacting on these allegations.
48 @ McLook:
Very, very, very valid argument, McLook!!
It is blatant amongst all New Zealand sides… and it is policed poorly, to say the least.
Player blocking, player interference around the rucks (and often right at the back of rucks, with players loitering there, spoiling ball)… and of course the synical and professional giving away of penalties near a New Zealand team’s line, rather than conceding a try…
It is done with such subliminal perfection that it looks innocent enough… but it is far too wide an occurrance to be mere accident or innocent!
But give the New Zealanders their due, they are innovators and they have innovated these tactics because they get away with it and it works… it works all too well in fact!
That it needs to be stopped, is clear as daylight on a bright day!!
