Bulls penalty… against Charles Marain on the ground.
Try Renaldo Bothma, Bulls… under the sticks!
Cheetahs 3 / 18 Bulls
I hate to be the deliverer of bad news but I think the Cheetahs are in for a long night at the office. This one’s going big I suspect.
Golden chance out wide for the Bulls… and what happens, Dries Swanepoel kicks through…
THAT is the mentality thing, the difference between here and New Zealand… in New Zealand THAT ball would NEVER have been kicked, never!!!
Staat over the line, Van Jaarsveld held up…
5m Staat scrum.
Bulls scrum penalty… against Charles Marais.
the intensity, accuracy and skill is entirely missing from this game when compared to what we were watching this morning. If these two teams were playing either one of the Hurricanes or the Highlanders this morning, we’d be looking at telephone number type scores against them. That’s just the plain truth from where I’m sitting.
Bulls maul going nowhere and Orie too doff to get the ball out to Piet van Zyl, turnover scrum to the Cheetahs.
38 @ Tassies:
Yip!
Penalty against the penalty machine of the Bulls, Marcel “Penalty Machine” van der Merwe!!
Blommetjies kicks it too deep… Bulls take the 22 Drop out…
Bulls steal… they make yards.., then Sergeal Petersen steals… Cheetahs penalty.
Bulls penalty, after the hooter… kicked out.

What is it guys? Are our coaches just that shit that they cannot get close to delivering the entertainment level Kiwi teams seem to offer us? Or is it simply that our players lack the skill born out of their formative years playing at school, varsity and club level? I don’t have the answers. I simply see what I watch and form an opinion.
45 @ Tassies:
So many good things happening at Varsity Cup level… but I think you are right, the problem starts already at Schools structured rugby… and provincial age-groups rugby… Under 19 and Under 21…
And then our senior brainless coaches box the players into structures and more structures…
I am a traditional, passionate SA rugby supporter, my attitude having being developed over decades. But, frankly, I have never seen our rugby at such a low ebb when compared to our main opposition, New Zealand. We are collectively, not in the same ballpark. Do we expect to win the SR crown? Not in my head sad to say. Quality will prevail, just as it has for years.
47 @ Tassies:
The Lions are our only hope for 2016…
Not the Stormers, nor the Sharks…
2nd Half ON!
Shaun Venter held up by Lappies Labuschagne, turnover Bulls scrum!
Again the scrum penalty goes against Marcel van der Merwe!
Knock by Shaun Venter at the base of the ruck.
Lappies Labuschagne off, Arno Botha on…
@ grootblousmile:
I have watched some fantastic schoolboy and varsity cup rugby in the past. Not recently I confess. Herschel Gibbs at flyhalf. Groom playing 9 for Rondebosch and Ikeys from when he was 10 years old. Pollard, Kitshoff, De Villiers, F Louw, Katshikilis, Kolisi, Etsabeth for Ikeys and even Rob Louw(with whom I played) at WBHS. I even played with Mallett(at junior school). Frankly they were great. But what’s happened in recent times? Did the talent pool simply shrink or has our coaching skill dramatically diminished under more recent rugby administrations?
Ryno Benjamin and Carl Wegner on for the Staat.
would Arno Botha(for example) be selected for a Kiwi franchise or would he have to be up-skilled to be considered? No doubt he has the talent. But is that enough today? These are tough questions.
Zeilinga also killing all Staat backline fluency and attack… he is frankly useless… whatever happened to Niel Marais??
Bulls penalty… great touchfinder!
@ grootblousmile:
And the Bulls persist with him in spite of him being a liability. Is there no-one else?
Bulls penalty, 8m out… posts!
