Yip, Schalla has become ineffective and a liability.
Congrats sharks supporters, Smit has assembled a great squad.
Nouja toe nou mense… ek moet my gat in rat kry… nog plekke om te gaan!
Enjoy your evening… see you for the RBS 6 Nations game tomorrow, Scotland vs France!!
England 19 / 0 Wales (50 min)
Congrats Sharkies and their supporters. Would’ve liked to say it was a deserved win but it was a win nonetheless.
See some Bully Boys got very exited by the Stormers loss (not the Sharks win). Congrats to all the Bullsharks too.
Pretty poor game imo.
Lots of intent but poor execution by the Stormers in the 1st half. At least they tried. Hopefully we will get there as the season progresses.
Johnny Kotze is no outside centre. Either on the inside or at wing.
Coleman was fine. Not great but not as kak as some thought/predicted.
Groom let us down with that miss tackle on JPP. I was a proponent of his as our solution at 9, but he has not evolved as much as I have hoped he would. CC level at best, it seems.
Kolisi showed that he is still much better than Notsche.
Schalla was crap. Probably too early to say that he is over the hill because he may just put in a MoM performance against the Brumbies next week but today he was crap.
Beast gave Malherbe a torrid time. Our 1st choice TH for the Boks with Jannie out of the picture. Dark days ahead indeed.
Vermaak did not control the game as he should have as the senior player that he is. Still not convinced by him. Let’s see if Masimla can make the step up since we know what we have in Vermaak and Groom, which isn’t actually much.
@ Nama:
Nice balanced viewpoint.
Did not get to see most of 2nd half but in general the SA sides were unimpressive this weekend.
Congrats to the Sharks. They accomplished what they needed to.
Just a pity we will have to live with their “fans” for the next 5 days or so.
Ah well, all part of life I guess.
Oh and big up to England on snuffing out the Tafdy Bastids’ 6N flame at HQ yesterday.
@ Nama:
The stormers is in our pool and the sharks isn’t.
Quite an easy deduction.
@ MacroPolo:
One huge plus point then is that next week’s match at Loftus is a win win game for you

Bad day at the office for us,but the only “NICE” thing for me from all this I guess is that we still sitting near the top of the ladder for the time being at least. My biggest concern is that we had so much territory & possession, but then couldn’t convert that into points or not putting scoreboard pressure on the Sardines i.e. make them chase the game with a considerable lead…Was it that the Guppies defence was just so damn better than ours or are we just so out of ideas attacking wise and are we in need of better attack coach,I wonder???
Burger I thought re-invented himself after his injury with his new look link-man job…you know…with the soft passes that were putting others into space at the RWC(Eben,Bismarck and squirrel faced Lood de Jager),that the hard-man bruiser was no longer there, but then what I saw is the expansive game don’t really suiting him and how gets tackled backwards alot more aswell,so what else does he offer Fleckie??IMHO not much..,A great a player for sure,he now sadly just a liability, but like you say “he may just put in a MoM performance against the Brumbies next week”…who knows hey…
Jano had a very poor game, the knock-on in the their red zone obviously the most telling, still 3 or 4 times that he got smothered was when he got very poor ball from the forwards…Groom wasn’t any better either and when JPP finally contributed in the match around the 77th minute,he just made a half-ass attempt at tackling him,but then again so did 3 others around him…
However…We were outsmarted by the Sharks in this contest, were their defence just better organized than ours and were their strike power out-wide to score the winning try was just too lethal compared to ours???
PS Eddie Jones in just 3 months in charge of England and has now won 2 trophies already…a TRIPLE CROWN & SIX NATIONS….and he said this afterwards post-match comments:”It’s nice to win a trophy-it’s a nice thing to have, but we’ve just got to keep getting better and better as a team.Tactically in the last 20 we sat back. Instead of keep attacking them we stopped. When we attacked them they really struggled to deal with us. When we sat back we struggled,so it’s a really good lesson. There’s nothing massive there we have to change, tactically we just have to have more awareness.”
If only Heyneke Meyer could’ve reason like Eddie is speaking right now in the 4 years that he was at the Springbok helm, just think he might have had a RC title to his name to show…
NET ‘N JAMMERTE HY KON DIT NET NIE RAAK SIEN NIE OF HY HET MAAR NET GEWEIER OM TE BESEF DAT DOMKRAG RUGBY IN ENIGE “shape or form” IS BLOOT KAK and must be mothballed completely…
Anyway ways amper so naby tyd vir vir bed hier,so ek skiet maar so bietjie aan…

I agree with both of you that Burger is becoming a liability…. one season too many…
The loose forwards do not work well as a combination and they need a tighter/ harder /bigger ball carrier like Elstadt or the young Jacques Vermeulen to compliment Carr and Kolisi.
Despite having one of his better games Coleman is not the answer and will never be… he is not a intelligent player and has shown on numerous occasions in the past he cannot take control of a game ( through tactical kicking etc ) when the situation gets tight… I fail to understand why Fleck does not give a true talent like Brendon Thomson a go ( at least off the bench) and stop wasting time with players such as Coleman and the very average Jean Luc du Plessis.
As far as scrumhalf is concerned I would give Jano another go but also consider to give young Justin Phillips a go off the bench.
My fear is that unless Robbie goes for more new blood in the team we are going to have very much the same type of season as during the last few years.

Hi Provincefan
What was good for me about Saturday’s game, was the fact that we at least showed intention to keep the ball in hand. As I’ve said in my 1st comment after the game on Saturday, the intent was there but the execution was poor. We just couldn’t breach their defence despite all that possession + territory and throwing the ball around. It’s as if we are still trapped in the belief that someone will make “magic” instead of collectively trying to create a gap to put someone through. If you look at how the Highlanders were able to put people in gaps or create an overlap, against the Lions, with simple passing and dummy running, it shows that we are still far behind. But at least the intent was there and that was pleasing for me.
I think the Sharks defended very well but we were also naive in our tactics and here one should blame Coleman. He should have varied his tactics more, I think. He probably still feels the pressure after his mare against the Cheetahs last year and maybe he is afraid to take chances or maybe he just isn’t the right man for the job, as Robzim suggests.
