    Congrats Stormers.

Many doudt you but some of us faithful will stick with you, even in a “lost” cause.

All those on this site who called for Lleyds to retire from rugby, after he was manhandled by Tomane in the play off last year, please put your hand up. (I won’t be surprise if there are no takers.)

And no, he did NOT score that try.

Moment of the game: Tomane shaking Lleyds’ hand and having a talk with him after the match. Clearly, something stuck after last years’ game in he play off..

First the push in the back, then the open palm to the face and after the game, a sportsman like handshake.

    Old school rugby.

Well done Stormers, the better team on the nifght.

Stephen Moore is a real gentlemen too.

    @ Nama:

Leyts is a good player…Surprisingly good in the air for such a relative small player . I wonder how he will do at no 10?

Fleck must take credit for the gameplan and for the selection of the more physical Kobus van Wyk on the wing to counter the big Brumbies backs. Schalk was a lot better then last week…a few sublime ofloads and the cross kick that led to the last try showed that it is too soon to write him off.

All in all it was a good team effort.

Yeah, Moore is class…no nonsense no excuses typical Aussie mentality.

    @ robzim:
Absolutely Rob. Fleckie deserves all the credit for the game plan and the players for the execution thereof.

I thought all the players who under performed last week, lifted their game yesterday. Groom, Coleman, Schalla etc. At some stage I was worried that we won’t be able to keep up the intensity but they just kept it up for the full 80 minutes. That red card sure did help towards the end but our players just never let up. They chased the kicks, tackled like demons and for the 1st time this season, our loose trio worked as a unit. Now all we need is consistent performances like that.

Next week it is the Jaquares away. A game that I nominated as a loss for the Stormers at the start of the season. The Jaquares wll be hungry for their 1st home win while yesterday’s performance by the Stormers will boost their confidence. It will be tight.

Lol so the skop en jaag gameplan is not so “outdated” anymore now its pure genius.

  • 145

    144 @ MacroPolo:
Is that the same as “Jakeball”?

    Serious question.

  • 146

    @ BrumbiesBoy:
    Pretty much.

  • 147

Not that I have a problem with the Stormers gameplan on Saturday, it is damn efficient. The back three really stood up and performed well under the high ball.

It is just ironic that when teams lose with this type of game plan it is labeled as outdated and archaic and does not fit into the “modern game”.

But when teams with win it, it is suddenly tactically genial.

I would say the one difference though was that from the kicking, instead of up and under’s, that is the staple of “jakeball” and “meyerball” that rely on precision was skipped and rather field position was sought… and with even less risk involved, as your defense in chasing will be easier set up.

    146 @ MacroPolo:
    Thanks

    @ MacroPolo:
There’s a difference between clever and effective kicking AND kicking just for the sake of it.

You’ve been told that numerous times in the past when you brought up Heyneke’s argument that the All Blacks kicked more than the Boks.
