Ruan Botha

Ruan Botha

The Cell C Sharks are set to announce their pre-season Super Rugby squad on Thursday – and the name Ruan Botha will appear on that list.

The 23-year-old Stormers lock is set for a move to Durban, while Springbok Pieter-Steph du Toit has moved from the Sharks to Newlands.

A Sharks spokesperson on Wednesday said that the deal between the union and Botha could not yet be officially confirmed due to a contract that still had to be signed.

However, the indication was that all of the paperwork would be wrapped up by Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Cell C Sharks are also expected to announce Namibian lock Tjiuee Uanivi as a further addition to their lock stocks.

The Cell C Sharks open their Super Rugby campaign against the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth on Saturday 27 February 2016.

The Stormers have enough locks… with Eben Etzebeth & Pieter-Steph du Toit their prime weapons. Jean Kleyn is good backup too.

    The Sharks needed quality locks.

Hell, the Bulls need locks, hope they also buy at least 1 very, very good lock!

@ grootblousmile: what happened to that very busy BB lock nursery of old GB? The the babies all fly the coup so to speak?

  • 3

Considering psdt will be injured 80% of the season, this will be a huge loss.

    2 @ Tassies:
There are a couple coming through nicely… RG Snyman will be very good… even Marvin Orie is getting better!

We at least get Grant Hattingh back for Super Rugby.

We need 1 more good lock…

The Sharks released Marco Wentzel. He will be 37 with his next birthday.

By the looks are things, Botha believes that the WP coaching staff is not backing him to play for the Springboks.

“For me it has to be a new start where I can put down my mark and play the game I love knowing that there are people backing me to make it far.”

It looks like it but he cannot justify that comment as he was given plenty of opportunities to start for WP/Stormers when fit. He is a very good prospect although he is also quite prone to injury. Good luck to him though.

Bulls should take him, we need at least one hardebaard

I agree, i can imagine any coaching staff that wouldnt push a player for higher honours ever, he was probably just upset about psdt joining and probably receiving a lot of attention.

@ grootblousmile: What about Jason Jenkins, he was part of the BB structures, wasn’t he? Glad we got Dennis Visser. He sort of went under the radar at the Bulls in recent times.

  • 12

    @ Cheetah4eva:
I also think jason is a damn good prospect.

  • 13

But jason jenkins will only be 20 next year. So it wouldn’t hurt to have him play currie cup next year before unleashing him in 2017

  • 14

Jason Jenkins will have is 20th birthday in 12 days time, 2nd December.

    11 @ Cheetah4eva:
Yeah, there’s him as well… and he’s a hard bugger for a teenager…. I think he has a rich future awaiting him.

I think he is a year or 2 out from making a real impact in Super Rugby though…. as an enforcer.
