Nah ritchie could be better at the shady dealing we give him credit for, but that really looked like an accident… I would be pretty upset if one of our players got suspended in that situation.

I dont see such a negative element if we had won the game even with 0 tries to two, with the ammount of possesion the all blacks had and the time they spent attacking they did, for us to hold on like we did deserves some form of credit in the way we defended. It was up to new zealand to close the game out but they couldn’t.

Now of course, we cant be doing this every game, but yesterday we were just pinned back by a better flyhalf, fullback and scrumhalf who outkicked us.

I think for all the criticism Carter has had to take the last year, he is coming into some good form, playing his best rugby again.

And aaron and ben smith… By far the best in the world at the moment.

    Fourie du Preez: 7

Very intelligent and unflustered game-management, as many might have expected. Took fearful facial knock before break, but played on pluckily with increasingly swelling “golf ball” on one cheek.

I swear if it was ruan pienaar playing yesterday he would have gotten 2, how the fark does fdp get a 7? He is way too slow and apart from 2 good up and unders in mid field simply could not relieve the pressure.

Agree, Richie may be guilty of conceding cynical penalties and pushing the boundaries, but a dirty player he is not.

He is usually on the receiving end of tactics to get him off the field, and in his 148 odd tests I think the only time I’ve seen him punch someone on a field was when he potted Piet van Zyl.

Once again the Bafana Bafana mentality regarding dropping of standards come to the fore.

Like when we lost to NZ in the cricket WC earlier this year, we are pleased to have lost by a small margin and some are happy that we came so close.

They, like the Proteas, will be receiving a heroes welcome at ORTIA.

Let’s face it, SA has become the mediocracy Capitol of the world where losing gets celebrated just as much as winning, just because our standards have slipped.

Jy weet mos wat hulle se …. N goeie verloorder is n gereelde verloorder

@ Puma: All good Pumes. Long, long time no chat. I agree with all your points. Meyer is a decent fellow and I don’t wish to know a good guy. But we seriously need a Springbok coach who has the courage to make some serious changes to how we play the game. We have the talent in spades. It requires to be properly channeled. Its not rocket science.

  • 458

@ MacroPolo: I do think though, as good as Pollard’s goal kicking was yesterday, his extremely poor tactical kicking really let the team down. Willie wasn’t too much better either. I’ve just watched the game again this morning in far more chilled environment which merely reinforced how poor our kicking was. Our backline defended well but in all other aspects was well below par.

    @ Tassies:
Everytime they were in their 22 they just kicked it a mile, 22-halway, they put up up and unders and chased it… in our half they ran the ball, (apart from a few grubbers to test our defense).

They played like we wanted to play, but we just could not get out of our half, Pollards kicking was not good enough, and Willie and fdp were equally poor.

    @ Tassies:
Ja nee jong die ding van balbesit weg skop sal ek nooit verstaan nie, veral nie as jy die bol net in die opesiesie se keelgat af skop

  • 461

Amla finally gets to 6000! whoop…

grrrr and fails again in a big ODI match

  • 462

I thought that first try was from a forward pass!

  • 463

    @ Vrystaat:

Hi Puma. All well on my side. How are you?

Just gutted that our team lost even though it was expected.

    > “But we seriously need a Springbok coach who has the courage to make some serious changes to how we play the game.”

I agree. However, presuming that Meyer is here to stay, I’d say that at the very least he needs some new assistant coaches – preferably a foreigner with fresh input. It gave fairly good results earlier in Meyer’s career: far as I recall, when Todd Louden was appointed as attack coach at the Bulls around 2007, they actually started scoring some pretty good tries.

Amla now holds the record as the fastest ODI batsman to:

    2 000 runs (40 innings)
    3 000 runs (57 innings)
    4 000 runs (81 innings)
    5 000 runs (101 innings)
    6 000 runs (123 innings)

He just eclipsed Kholi’s record as the fastest man to 6 000 runs by a full 13 innings’.

    Impressive!

His consistency in scoring 1 000 runs every 20 innings that he plays, is equally impressive.

I hate losing against the AB’s. Fact that the players seems Ok with just putting up a good performance has Craven turning around in his grave, I am sure.

We lost this match in the first 10 minutes after half time. All we needed to do was get off the ground a bit quicker; hit the ball with a bit more speed and most importantly get them in their own 22 and keep them there. We started the 2 second half like we’re in a daze. FdP first touch ended up in a skewed freakin box kick.

It was like deep down all the boks wanted to do was to prove they are worthy and the real belief and non-negotianable need to win is absent.

Yeah, we played OK. Yeah, we didn’t play attractive rugby. But f**k all that, all that counts, in the end is the scoreboard. We were in a position to win this; all we needed was 10 minutes of focussed concentration. Yeah, good effort by the boys and we should be proud of them but F that, I just hate losing against the all blacks. We had them against the ropes but the killer instinct has gone awol in SA rugby.

Some nice shots by Quinny here

Everybody is quick to label Jake a Snake, yet they have no qualms about HM throwing his players in front of a train?

I was listening to a radio clip earlier this morning where he is quick to praise them for the first half “because they executed the game plan”

The second half we lost because we deviated. The same was said after the Japan game.

When we win it’s him and his game plan, when we lose it’s because the players didn’t execute his game plan.

Saw an article on SARugbymag where he is quoted as saying we all knew our fitness wasn’t up to scratch, yet before the game he was telling us how much fitter the players are and how they will last the full 80 this time.

Another bugbear is how quick he is to lavish praise on The Lord after every victory, always his opening line, yet when we lose you won’t hear him saying any thanks.

This guy is a bigger fraud than most in parliament, yet some still believe he is the messiah needed to rectify SA rugby

    Good morning fellas.

Who do you guys think will win this afternoon?

Arg has been impressive throughout the tournament while Aus seemingly is stuttering along in 3rd or 4th gear. Should be a good, open game. The loss of Sio will work against Aus but I think they’ll still take it.

  • 475

    470 @ nortie:
Hi nortie you’ve been anti all along so this is your time to crow and crow I told you so. Anybody can see the execution of the launching and chasing the high ball was done well for much of the first half, far better than the second half, wonder if all the defending they had to do meant the players were just that little bit too tired to properly do this in the second half, saw a Bok puffing hard already late in the first half, they had to scramble quite a bit. I also prefer to see the ball been run with which is how the Boks started. But hey even the All Blacks kicked a lot and theirs ended up more effective in the end, at one point I thought I saw the Boks had 7 lineout to throw in compared to 2 or 3 of the All Blacks then, to me this is an indication of how much the All Blacks kicked, which must have been a strategy in the rain.
Not worth commenting on the rest. Anyway your frustration has been building for long so rather than Frozen song – Let it go, suggest you keep on and Let it Flow, if it makes you feel better…

looks like the only way india is going to get de kock out is by making him tiring him out. 😉

  • 477

    Farkit what an innings

  • 478

De Kock closing in on a 100.

There it is. Yet another 100, his 5th, against India.

    Well done.

Will be an excellent game, looking forward to it, Aus should win it, but Sanchez could well topple them, highly underrated player.

    What an innings indeed!

Great knock. Hope he’ll stay there until deep into our innings. This is still only the 23rd over being bowled.
