Ross Ford and Jonny Gray are in danger of missing Scotland’s Rugby World Cup quarterfinal against the Australian Wallabies, after both were cited on Monday.

1st Choice hooker Ford and lock Gray, who forms an effective partnership with older brother Richie, have been cited for a lifting tackle during Scotland’s thrilling 36 / 33 win over Samoa on Saturday.

Their hearing will take place in London on Tuesday morning and will be heard by English lawyer Christopher Quinlan.

Australia will have breathed a sigh of relief as star No 8 David Pocock escaped a citing for an incident during their epic 15 / 6 win over Wales on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Zimbabwe-born loose forward received a post-match warning, the equivalent of a Yellow Card. He could be called to a hearing after 3 warnings or Yellow Cards.

“Pocock is therefore free to play in Australia’s quarterfinal against Scotland,” said a Rugby World statement.

Oh dear this would be a big blow if they miss out. There would only be the other 2 hookers in the squad, one of which is the 3rd choice hooker at Glasgow. On the lock front it would be mean making one of the loose forwards cover lock from the bench as Vern Cotter only has 3 recognized locks in the squad since he brought flank Cowan in for the injured lock Grant Gilchrist.

The player in the pictures on the left is not Ross Ford, looks like Grant Gilchrist.

Should rather use their fists if what Hooper (mostly) and O Brien did goes unpunished.

    @ MacroPolo:
    Ke?

You are referring to the Aus/Eng game I presume? Hooper was charged with “shoulder-charging etc,” pleaded guilty to foul play and was punished accordingly.

Hooper punched Nicolas Sanchez earlier this year during the RC.

Obviously they can’t let him miss an All Blacks test match 😆

Nah, now I remember he gently shoved him into touch!

Having seen footage of the incident I think Ford should walk free can’t see that he did anything wrong – just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Jonny Gray on the other hand will be very lucky if he doesn’t get a ban which would be deserved – very stupid tackle he pulled off.

Tongan Paula Ngaumo got a 3 week ban for a “tip tackle”, this is what I would expect Jonny Gray could be facing, although granted I have not seen the Ngaumo incident.

Actually it seems the Ngaumo tackle he got banned for was the one on Dan Carter in which case I did see it and we discussed it here during the game, these were my thoughts at the time:
“Lucky only a yellow think he could be cited for that one looked nasty” and “Agree that one (tackle by NZ player in 1st half) should have been a yellow but this one looked worse to me that’s why think he will be cited”
