    @ MacroPolo:

In a World Cup, you underestimate teams at your peril.

And of course the Boks are hurting. Flo’s face said it.

  • 393

I think Argentina will be up for it later today.

I expect to see more upsets in this World Cup.

  • 394

Only two Countries on The Planet have a superior Win/Loss over The Springboks.

And Japan the only Country to hold a 100% winning record against SA.

This is not just the biggest Rugby WC upset of all time.
But the greatest shock result in International Rugby, ever.

And most likely, among All Sporting Codes, one of the most astonishing results.

  • 395

    @ IAAS:

There will be no upset at Wembley later tonight.

Said I was going away for the day but reading this thought would have to return to comment on that. It just seems completely ignorant and racist, will stick to the rugby side of it. On the ignorance side : “fire the coach” – what we have just started the World Cup how can we do this where will we find another one, will the assistant coaches just step up? then “Cosatu offered advice suggesting form players from Super Rugby join the World Cup team.” – eh??? the squad can only be changed if there are injuries to players (and specifically injuries the players didn’t come into the Cup with) so how can they all of a sudden just fly new players across?
AND this ““There were great black and white players in Super Rugby ” – I thought one of the things most people on the blogs agreed on regardless of which team they supported was that this was a poor Super rugby year for SA teams?

    @ IAAS:
You can be confident without being over confident… What we saw during the anthems was severe stress especially on jdv’s face.

  • 398

    @ IAAS:
    I hope not.

    😆

  • 399

On a lighter note. Yesterday evening West Ham were leading Man City and only a very while after the Boks defeat and Gary Linekar tweeted something along the lines of “If West Ham can just hold on here this will be the biggest sporting upset since Japan beat South Africa in the Rugby World Cup” In spite of the loss had a chuckle at that, sometimes if you don’t laugh you will cry. Happy

Only grain of hope i have is that this gameplan strategy will be more refined against the better teams.

Beast made a total of 8 carries yeaterday… While he made just 10 during the whole rugby championship.

So our plan was clearly simply to give the ball to the big boys at first receiver and let them run over them, but japan was up so fast they kept catching us behind the gainline. Fortunatly it worked for us when strauss and lood was getting the ball flat and at speed. Too often our forwards who are supposed to take the ball up stand too deep.

    @ cane:

Not saying tonight. But there will be going forward.

Argentina do know now that nothing is impossible. They will throw the kitchen sink at it.

  • 402

    @ IAAS:
They will be tough no doubt.

Georgia over Tonga also a huge upset.

A positive for SA, has to be, that now Heineken has to ring in the changes……………………………………Out with the Oldies (Vic, Burger, FdP, Jean, Bryan). and in with the Newbies. (Eben, Kolisi, Allende).

  • 403

    @ NZINCHINA:

Fck I’m glade a Kiwi didn’t Ref this one.

  • 404

I’m still in no doubt, we (NZ) will meet your lot in the Semi’s.

  • 405

I wonder how many franchises out there now have Eddie Jones’s CV on their desk?

And whether he has signed anything yet?

  • 406

    @ cane: @ 404

Even steady Eddie has said that the Boks will bounce back against Samoa.

    That is cold comfort.

    The Boks lament

“It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)”

That’s great, it starts with an earthquake
Birds and snakes, an aeroplane, and Lenny Bruce is not afraid

Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn
World serves its own needs, don’t misserve your own needs
Feed it up a knock, speed, grunt, no, strength
The ladder starts to clatter with a fear of height, down, height
Wire in a fire, represent the seven games
And a government for hire and a combat site
Left her, wasn’t coming in a hurry with the Furies breathing down your neck

Team by team, reporters baffled, trumped, tethered, cropped
Look at that low plane, fine, then
    Uh-oh, overflow, population, common group
But it’ll do, save yourself, serve yourself
World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed
Tell me with the Rapture and the reverent in the right, right
You vitriolic, patriotic, slam fight, bright light
    Feeling pretty psyched

It’s the end of the world as we know it
It’s the end of the world as we know it
It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine

Six o’clock, TV hour, don’t get caught in foreign tower
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn
Lock him in uniform, book burning, bloodletting
    Every motive escalate, automotive incinerate
Light a candle, light a motive, step down, step down
Watch your heel crush, crush, uh-oh
This means no fear, cavalier, renegade and steering clear
A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives, and I decline

It’s the end of the world as we know it (I had some time alone)
It’s the end of the world as we know it (I had some time alone)
It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine (It’s time I had some time alone)
I feel fine (I feel fine)

It’s the end of the world as we know it (It’s time I had some time alone)
It’s the end of the world as we know it (It’s time I had some time alone)
It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine (It’s time I had some time alone)

The other night I dreamt a nice continental drift divide
Mountains sit in a line, Leonard Bernstein
Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce, and Lester Bangs
    Birthday party, cheesecake, jellybean, boom
You symbiotic, patriotic, slam but neck, right? Right

It’s the end of the world as we know it (It’s time I had some time alone)
It’s the end of the world as we know it (It’s time I had some time alone)

The bitter truth for Heyneke Meyer.

  • 409

    @ cane:
    Hi Cane
Fern sends his greetings, he came here yesterday bearing a curry deluxe

  • 410

Fern also says that it’s a good thing these Boks are not playing with a Bok on their chests, they don’t deserve that accolade and have no pride in the Bok

  • 411

The bottom line here is that Meyer is a disgrace as a national coach.
Singing the anthem with gusto makes you a patriot, not a good coach.

The biggest joke is he and his players now talking about they can still win the WC, they must only just win every game from now on in.

Yes, mathematically that may be true, but has someone informed his royal highness that in their last 6 tests they have lost to Ireland, Australia, NZ, Argentina and Japan?

His head is so far in Lala land that it would have been funny if only he didn’t have to drag a once proud rugby nation to the gutters to prove he is an idiot.

He won’t resign, just like JdV won’t give up his place and the captaincy.

  • 412

    @ nortie:

Meyer is deluded. There is no way this team will be able to lift themselves mentally to win this cup. They will most likely still win their section but the moment the going gets tough against a real strong team in the play offs the doubt will creep in…and the other team will also know that ” if Japan could do it we most certainly can too”.

I gave them a outsiders chance to win the wc until yesterday but now i am convinced they have zero chance.

The young girl with the ice cream is just brilliant.
