Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers was a guest speaker at an event where a group of supporters burned a Springbok jersey out of protest last week.
A new organisation, Supporters Against Racist Rugby Associations (Sarra), was officially launched in Mossel Bay last Friday, where the group burned a Springbok rugby jersey.
The group wants to see more players of colour in the Springbok team and feels not enough is being done to speed up the transformation process in South African rugby.
De Villiers, 58, attended the event as guest speaker.
De Villiers, who coached the Springboks between 2008 and 2011, has made headlines over the past few weeks for his scathing criticism of current national coach Heyneke Meyer.
He feels Meyer is not giving enough black players the opportunity to prove their worth and wrote in a column that the current Bok coach “underestimated the intelligence of black people with a dishonest selection”.
He has also said that Meyer has taken South African rugby “into the gutters”.
De Villiers will work as a rugby pundit for the SABC during this year’s Rugby World Cup.
The 2015 Rugby World Cup, to be staged in England and Wales, runs from 18 September until 31 October.

Here are some of the Videos of last night’s Cosatu meeting:
Now tell me this is not politicized to the extreme, tell me Snor does not silently reconcile himself with the burning of the Springbok jersey, tell me he did not take part in an inflamatory speech at Sarra (even though these videos are a follow-up at a Cosatu meeting).
Can you do that?
I guess not!
Tell me that Peter de Villiers is not busy with political game play…. can’t either, can you?
Tell me that they are not playing the numbers game here, in stead of the merit game.
Tell me that this type of action is not aimed at a totally undemocratic way of operation.
Tell me that this action is not feulling the devide.
How does BrumbiesBoy always say… “No normal Sport in an abnormal society!”
Should we even be looking at colour… at all… or should we want the best South African Rugby World Cup squad out there, irrespective of colour?
Snor can go screw himself for all I care!

You have it spot-on… P-Divvie is trying to stay relevant… and he’s not relevant at all, bar the irritation factor!
Hell Chester Williams has even taken his UWC Varsity Shield coaching jobbie!
Pdivvy attempting a forray into politics? Will be interesting, his spokesperson will need a spokesperson.
Boy, is Heyneke going to cop it tomorrow when he announces his squad….and I’m assuming he will be branded a sell out when he leaves Marcell, Brussouw, Reinach etc out of his squad 😆
And be accused of playing political games and bowing to Cosatu.
Will have my popcorn handy to enjoy the show
At least his disciples will use the “influences from outside” as a handy excuse for his failures as an International coach
@ nortie:
There is absolutely no way on earth Meyer could ever win in tomorrows announcement, I see that both Mallet and Venter would have taken JPP and Kirchner… that alone will unleash a fierce wave from the western part of the country, and most people on the interwebs included Matfield and JDV…
Tomorrow is going to be a shit hitting the fan scenario.
@ MacroPolo:
Too be fair, I think even in the Independent Republic of Natal people will admit that JPP does not deserve to be anywhere near a Bok jersey…..cynics might say unless that jersey is on fire 😉
To me the best part of all this is that he is still trying to punt JDJ, oh the electrifying try scoring combo he and DDA were in Superrugby, HAVE to be springboks 😆
36 @ nortie:
Yep, I am not a fan either, I just mention is because it will be deemed a controversial inclusion, yet an ex springbok coach and a blogger people respect as well.
I also know, as much as i know my hand from my foot, PDivvy would NOT in no way have left JDV at home, not a chance.
@ MacroPolo:
I don’t really care what Divvie says or what he does….the same freedom of speech that we are allowed here on this blog should be afforded to him.
So what if he wants to go into politics, all rugby doors are closed to him, so who are we or who is anybody to deny him his right to earn a living?
What irks many is the fact that his success rate as an International coach, measured in trophies and series won, and especially against NZ, is far superior to that of many previous (and current) Bok coaches 😆
@ nortie:
I give him the right to say and do what he wants, but we all have the right to disagree with it, there is a difference between allowing free speech and giving it free reign by not challenging it.
What irks me is that he had a team that played damn good skop en jaag and won trophies with it, ended Joe Rocococo’s career with it, yet today if someone sees one of the springboks even kicking a ball their heads explode

“@ nortie:

Of course, but that should be the same for everyone here as well.
You know what they say, opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one 😉

It all comes down to execution.
@ nortie:
Well that is how we beat them, also because Morne Scored 60% of the points and Fransie had a few long rangers.

The scoreboard doesn’t always ask for an ” explanation column”
The same way NZ and Aus won’t be bothered as to who had “ascendency” after 70 minutes of this year’s RC matches.
Fact is he was sold out from his first minute of getting appointed by Hoskins, and also subsequent to his last day and beyond.
Would it have killed SARU to appoint him in some capacity after his tenure?
Would it have changed his perception of SARU, Meyer and Bok rugby?
The one fact many are missing is that he will lead up, or be part of the panel for SABC for the WC. Now, the majority of bloggers here and on other sites are subscribed to DSTV so won’t care about that, but remember, the majority of other South Africans, those who politicians and the like, including SARU, would love to take up an interest in the game, don’t have access to DSTV, so they will be tuning in to Divvie and their impressions of Bok rugby will be formed in a large part on what he has to say.
It’s shortsighted to dismiss his utterances as ramblings, he could play a part in the future of SA rugby, but how he will influence some people could have been better handled IMO.
@ nortie:
What are you talking about? I never dismissed his utterencea as ramblings
Lol im talking about the merits of a proper kicking game that is essential for success these days, especially kicking scrumhalves… But ironically the new catch phrase is “ball in hand rugby”, and people automatically groan when a kick takes place these days.
@ nortie:
And so what if its on sabc, his ramblings wont differ much from spuersport though.
The analysis is essentially always “well team b needs to find a way of scoring more points than team a” with the odd jab at the ref inbetween.
@ MacroPolo:
Wasn’t referring to you 😆
Just in general.
MacroPolo wrote:
Do you believe that was what he was talking about when invited as guest speaker to the preamble to this thread?
Come now, you know full well what I am referring to.
@ nortie:
Divvy will have to stick to his contract. Most of the audience wont be cosatu.

Not quite.
That was “their” favourite slogan during “the struggle”.
What I did with the introduction of affirmative action & reverse apartheid was merely to switch it around to show my absolute disgust & displeasure of “their” actions, ie:
“No “abnormal” sport in a “normal” society”
52 @ BrumbiesBoy:
Hehehe
Sorry, I stand corrected!
You have it spot on though!
It’s also interesting to note the timing of Sabc giving him a pundits slot they’ve had four years to give him a slot.
As gave supersport for that matter?
More good points.
Two sayings from Pdivie himself, that just seem to sum him up.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
1) “I will not change my style. If I change my style I will change Peter de Villiers and then I would have to tell God that he made a mistake when he made me.”
(2) “I have got a job to do. I think I am a strong individual, a strong character. I do not care what people think about me. I do not care what people say about me. It is what I think about me and myself – and I love myself a lot.”
34: en so sê ‘n ou Snorre dissipel ….
Lees daar op supersport
Some of the selections may well seem controversial, but Meyer is also set to name 8 players of colour in the squad as opposed to the 7 that were named in the previous squad in 2011 by then coach Peter de Villiers.
Hehe, so Meyer is nog meer polities korrek as Snorre ?
