Bokke scrum Free Kick… playing the ball in the tunnell
Was a nice strong Bokke scrum!
They opt to scrum again!
Another scrum. Corner line out better option I thought
Bokke penalty, smack bang in front, 5m out!
The Boks really need to be taking their opportunities. They are being wasted
They opt to scrum again… good stuff!
Little Bokke knock, after a strong Bokke scrum
Seconds to go…
Pienaar on fullback knocking on
Glen Jackson advises there is 2 minutes to go… even though the hooter has already gone.
Argies laasweek se wen dubbel en dwars verdien, maar mens kan net wonder wat sou gebeur het met ‘n ander ref en ‘n paar ander spankeuses ?
Reset scrum…
Must say, the Bokke scrums have been much better… maybe reffed much better too!
Tighthead by the Bokke!!
Pumas penalty, 5m from their on line, quick tap and go
Game Over!
Alberts ook baie goed gedoen veral na hy so lank af was
Well done Boks, a better performance, aided by an absolutely kuk performance by the Argies. A lot of work to go, but I stand by my thoughts. Matfield should be no where near this team, shouldn’t even be a thought in the Coaches mind, not even in a coaching role. There, I have just opened myself up to ridicule by the kenners, but so be it.
Final Score: South African Springboks (20) 26 / 12 (9) Argentinian Pumas
a much improved performance by the Boks. A few stand-outs. Front row were good. Lineouts were good. Lambie ran the game. Mvovo looked sharp. An allround much better performance.
one criticism. Boks still can’t finish. Too many turnovers given away when the tryline is within fingertip reach. Lost count how many times this happened today. Can’t afford this in a close game.
Well, thank heavens for that!! 🙂
Little less smash up when we carry and more moving of the ball could be something to work on for the boks.
In the end a good result. Good line speed and agression at the breakdowns on defense. Played in the right areas. Scrum was better line out good consistent pressure on their throw in. Still lacking ball control when on attack; It cost us at least two tries. Still slipping into defensive mindset when in front although it was better than against the Aussies.
At last a win after four defeats in a row.
😆
OK, my Bok summary:
Loosehead: Both Trevor & Beast did bloody well, no problems there
Hooker: Adriaan Strauss was strong in the scrums and found his jumpers, Schalk Brits added impetus with ball in hand
Tighthead: Marcell van der Merwe scrummed well enough, so too Frans Malherbe… no serious problems there today. Both better than Koch.
Locks: Eben worked hard, must just bloody curb his hot-headedness. Victor was solid, put in the tackles, was a general in the lineouts and captained well. Flip was solid without being spectacular
Loosies: Storng work and in your face defence by Brüssow, Willem Alberts (added some grunt) and Schalla was solid on No 8. Pieter-Steph fitted in well at replacement blindsider.
Scrumhalf: We’re still missing something here, big time!!
Flyhalf: Lambie played very well, kicked well to posts, no problem. So, who is our No 1 choice flyhalf??
Centres: Damian de Allende was strangely misfiring, I thought, but he’s a must at No 12 for the World Cup. Jesse Kriel was solid. Jan Serfontein was not bad, maybe a bit game rusty. Jean de Villiers can be dropped as far as I am concerned.
Wings: Bryan Habana worked very hard, he had a great game. Lwazi Mvovo is our answer for right wing… forget Cornal Hendricks & JP Pietersen!!
Fullback: Zane was solid on defence… his defence is better than that of Willie le Roux, but he lacks Willie’s attacking X-factor.
319 @ Tassies:
Pretty much a sweeping statement of south african rugby for the last two years.
@ Just For Kicks:
Your mind appears to have been made up 😆
DSTV studio guests – Mallett, Naas, & Ashwin Willemse – say Matfield had a very good game…
Kirschner was study enough but we missed Willie le Roux’s play making. Willie doesnot smash up and that was part of the reason we couldn’t finish; smash up when we need to send the ball to someone in space. We scored our two tries that way.
Hopelik het HM nou ‘n paar harde lesse geleer die afgelope 2 naweke, en dit vir die Bokke goed uitwerk vir die WB.
OK, so this game was not a magical quick fix, we’d be kidding ourselves if we thought so.
Due to all the changes, it was expected that we would not finish as well as a well-oiled machine, but these Bokke did us proud.
Biggest PLUS was defence.. it was IN the Pumas faces!
Lots, lots of hard work remain before the Rugby World Cup!
Now I am looking forward who the final Springbok squad will be!
