Willie le Roux

Willie le Roux

It was announced yesterday that Willie le Roux has signed for the Cell C Sharks for the 2016 season of Super Rugby, after agreeing to a deal that the Cheetahs were reportedly unable to match. Le Roux will play a short stint in Japan after the World Cup but will join the Sharks after.

In other news, Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer is reportedly courting the services of Japan-based Andries Bekker and is said to be finalizing the details with his Japan club Kobelco Steelers and will be able to confirm his availability in the coming weeks.

This is excellent news for the Springboks, as there is a severe lack of depth in the No 5 department and Bekker has shown himself to be 1 of the world leading players in his position over the past years.

Vodacom Bulls based lock Flip van der Merwe is also considering a return to international rugby which will hopefully also be confirmed in the coming weeks. Van der Merwe acquitted himself well at No 5 for the Springboks in the 2013 Rugby Championship and this may be on Meyer’s mind as Pieter-Steph du Toit may not be fit in time for the announcement of the Bok squad later this year.

Meyer is clearly concerned about the spate of long term injuries to key players in the past 6 months, with doubts on the availablity of several players that are key to Meyer’s World Cup plans. There is lots of Rugby still to play this year before the World Cup in October and the coach seems to be hedging his bets on some of the “old guard” coming out of the Bok wilderness.

Morné Steyn’s impressive season for his french club Stade Francais puts him squarely in the Bok frame again, especially given the fact that his recent experience in Northern hemisphere conditions.

Not sure what Flips problem is.

I think if Grant Hattingh had the opportunity to prove himself at any other province he would have been one of the first choices in the same form he is in. I know I had Matfield in my “bok” team the other day, but in retrospect, Vic should not even be making the Bulls team.

Agreed I think that Vic is fine if there is no one else but in a perfect world Andries Bekker would be the Bok no 5. I think that Franco Mostert has also had a great season so far.

I think it is good to get Bekker involved, but I wont forget how dismally poor he was, the last time her represented the boks

    @ MacroPolo:
Yes there are no guarantees but at least we will have him available as another option, which I am pleased about.

Skoppie, Grant 10, Bakkies I Love you, Wallabie, cab, stan , Dawn, The Tackler, St Mich, Koos etc etc……………………………………..Never a dull moment.

And the Rugby debates were not too bad either.
    Each to their corner.
    No quarter given.

P.S. I always agreed 100% with Skoppie on music………………………………we must have been of the same generation.
Mellencamp is/was just a “Pop Singer”.

Music is music, just entertainment at the end of the day and, like wine, to try and rate them is a really pointless exercise. You either enjoy it or you don’t.

Each have their place, from the 1directions to the Bob Dylans.

    @ Stormersboy:

    True.
But many of us have an “impressionable age”. One that lasts a lifetime.
It doesn’t mean that we cannot like, or not be impressed by other music.
Just that, that music, helped define us, and our generation.

For my father it was the Crooners……………………………..Sinatra etc.
For my older brother…………………… Elvis, Tom Jones, The Beatles.
For myself………………………………CSN&Y, The Who, Dylan etc
For my Son…………………I like a lot of the shit he listens too………………………..but I certainly would not buy it.

    😉

    @ cane:

The musicians that Skoppie rated were all brilliant imo too… the only problem I had with him is that he thought that they were the ONLY brilliant one’s and that nearly all those who came later onto the scene were bad.

btw..The ringtone on my cell is “The Seeker” by the Who, so my “impressionable age”and yours are probably very much the same..

  • 18

    @ robzim:
I’ve looked under tables too Rob.

    I asked Robert Zimmerman,
    I asked the Cheetahs,
I asked I Love You Bakkies
But he couldn’t help me either ……………….

    🙄

Yes for me it’s queen (70’s queen), Zeppelin, Deep Purple and a bunch of other stuff, including some folksy Simon and Garfunkel and much others.

I enjoy every type of music, including the new stuff. If it sounds good I will play it.

Rafe levine. Now there’s a name from the past.

Barney Simon played the opening act (DJ’ing) at the Kings of Chaos in 2013 at Sun City. Played Sisters, ACDC and the rest.

It was great seeing him play outside of the restricted radio format that he usually has to stick to.

Pixies launched a comeback recently, Black Francis is a unique character, did a few good solo stuff as well, but people generally get stuck at “that” one song.

It is a shame what Barney’s career has become and the complete toss music he has to play on Jacaranda… but we all have to eat.
