England players have been dangled a large financial carrot ahead of the Rugby World Cup later this year.
The home side’s players have been offered a performance bonus of just over £ 100 000.00 (R 1.9m) each if they win the title, according to the Daily Mail website.
The financial incentive is believed to be more than 6 times greater than the £ 16 000.00 (R 300 000.00) reward that was on offer for winning this year’s Six Nations tournament – which they missed out on in dramatic fashion as Ireland triumphed.
On top of any performance-related rewards, players are also guaranteed a £ 15 000.00 (R 285 000.00) lump sum – including match fees, training fees and image rights – every time they are named in the matchday 23.
England, who last lifted the Webb Ellis Cup in 2003, open the tournament against Fiji at Twickenham on 18 September.
