Springbok scrumhalf Jano Vermaak has signed a 2-and-a-half-year deal with Western Province Rugby and will be available for selection from 1 July, once he has completed his current club commitments in France.
The 30-year-old will make the move back to South Africa from French giants, Toulouse; joining Nic Groom, Louis Schreuder and Godlen Masimla as the senior scrumhalf options for the DHL Stormers and DHL Western Province.
The quicksilver Vermaak has won 3 Test caps for the Springboks, making his debut against Italy on 8 June 2013, before also featuring against the Wallabies and the All Blacks later that season.
WP Director of Rugby Gert Smal commented on www.wprugby.com: “Jano is a quality signing and not only will he add some quality to our halfback resources, but he will also be able to pass on all his experience to Nic, Louis, Godlen and our younger No 9s (like Justin Phillips).
“His rugby CV speaks for itself, but Jano is also a great team man. His signing is a positive step for us at WP Rugby.”
Vermaak, who has also represented the Lions and the Bulls in South Africa with much success, added: “I have been watching with interest how the DHL Stormers and DHL Western Province have performed and achieved so much success over the past few seasons.
“I would love nothing more than adding to that success, but I am also very excited to be joining this young team and working with an already talented group of players.
“I remain committed to Toulouse, but once I have finished the season here I look forward to returning home and giving my all for Western Province Rugby.”
Great buy- Hopefully they will now sell Schreuder to the Cheetahs to help finance the purchase of Vermaak.
@ robzim:
Yip, he should fit in nicely with the Stormers’ pattern of play, Gert Smal knows exactly what he wants from Jano…PdeV and Heyneke faarked up big time with this boykie, not to mention the flippen useless Bulls’ management in SnorTown
Really good to see Vermaak back in SA.
