JPP isn’t shit but he ain’t a centre. The Sharks have a centre playing wing and a wing playing centre. What the hell is Gold thinking.
181 @ mikeybrass:
No Braso, JPP is plain shit… he is not a mere shadow of what he was!!
@ grootblousmile:
Put him back onto the wing and give him a coach with a decent gameplan and watch him go.
@ mikeybrass:
What is his role in the team…whether Boks or Sharks?
He is not a try scorer of note, his strike rate for an international wing with 50 plus caps is way below average compared to the other 50 plus caps greats.
Maybe he “earns his money” in Japan and “earns his rest” when back at the Sharks
ok so as die cheetahs kan wen vandag dan is die tjarks amptelik die kakste span in sa……dan kort hulle net vir naka ook
@ nortie:
Who would you replace him with? Cornal is a better striker and worse on defense at wing.
JPP does not defend – not just at centre, but also at fullback & wing – he doesn’t tackle, he directs traffic.
But granted wing is his best position – there he can cause the least havoc, errr, for his own team …
186 @ mikeybrass:
That is the problem HM will have…..being a coach of a SA side is not so easy, you can’t just replace a player and mess up the demographics of the team. It must be like for like.
The best SR wing at this stage, IMO, is currently Hougaard.
@ Angostura:
senatla,mvovo,cornall,mapoe?
186 @ mikeybrass:
Many options better than JP Pietersen at the moment for right wing!!
How’s about Ruan Combrinck at the Lions
Or
Francois Hougaard at the Bulls
Or
Cornal Hendricks at the Cheetahs (and no JP’s defence is way worse than that of Cornal)
Or
Kobus van Wyk at the Stormers
Or
Seabelo Senatla at the Stormers
Or
Lwazi Mvovo at the Sharks
Fact is ALL of those are way better than JP Pietersen at the moment… hell any of the 2 Ndungane brothers are better than him too!
So, that makes him what, the 9th best (or worse) right wing in SA at the moment – so why would one want him anywhere close to the Springboks?
@ nortie:
Yeah Hougaard is no scrummy and a damn fine wing.
The Sharks should move Sithole to centre to gain penetration. Cronje and Steyn both took the ball without movement and the backline was badly badly static.
@ grootblousmile:
Cornal’s defence at Bok level was not good. His offense play is though.
@ grootblousmile:
Senatla ? Really? He has barely played Super rugby. Give him time to bed in. JPP has been through tough patches before and bounced back. Having him at centre is doing him a massive disservice.
193 @ mikeybrass:
Disagree… now what about the rest of the other 8.

I like that ‘demographic’ phrase 🙄 🙄
And really what difference it’s going to make anyway for HM in the coming RWC?
193 @ mikeybrass:
Till JP Pietersen does bounce back, he should not be picked, it is not the right place to expect or HOPE he bounces back at the Springboks.
He needs to bounce back at his Franchise first, otherwise he simply does not MERIT selection for the Springboks!!
@ grootblousmile:
Not a fan of Mvovo. Hougaard already mentioned. Kobus ok. Ruan not at JPP’s level, etc. JPP needs to be moved back to wing for the Sharks.
197 @ mikeybrass:
You have surely not been watching a lot of rugby… or Super Rugby or Lions Super Rugby, right?
Surely THAT is the case!!
Either that or your Sharks loyalty is blinding you on how really, really kak JPP really is this season!!
Ruan Combrinck & Francois Hougaard MUST be considered the 2 prime right wingers in the SA Franchises at the moment!!
Do you agree JPP is not in form at present, no matter where he is played? If so, then you would have to concede that for THAT reason he does not MERIT Bok selection at present!
JPP has scored 1 try in his last 38 Super Rugby games (about 2 full Super Rugby Seasons)… ONE SOLITARY try… and that is not enough for a winger or outside centre! In other words he’s been kak for a couple of YEARS already!
@ grootblousmile:
I’m a Stormer and mentioned I consider Hougie to be a top winger.
199 @ mikeybrass:
Then I can only assume you have a misguided love for JPP!
@ grootblousmile:
A Carpie having love for a Durbanite? LOL. No, I like him as a counterfoil to Habana.
Currently it’s up to Gold or Smit or whoever runs the Sharks to sort JPP out….they need to give him a kick in the pants, or drop his lazy arse.
He is not dropping the Boks at the moment, he is dropping the Sharks IMO.
JPP has been kak for 2-3 seasons already – for the Sharks & for the Bokke
His defence, handling, reading of the game & energy/participation levels have been well below average for as long as I can remember…
Going with him to the RWC (& playing him in a match) would be like fielding 14 players vs 16 opposition players (he adds value for the opposition)…
IMO of course … but I must be wrong, coz why else would the Sharks & the Bokke contract, pay & play the dude?
Lethargic, disinterested, detached …
@ Angostura:
As David Campese said in studio “like looking at his watch and asking if the game is over yet”
He has been better for the Boks though, but it’s not saying much considering how woeful he has been for the Sharks.
Yet, as you say, keeps getting contracts by both, and even being played out of position to be accommodated

I think Sithole’s defense has been on par with JPP, actually according to the NZ herald rugby stats, JPP has a tackle success rate of 81%, debatable of course, also the tackles are usually from behind after he let the players run past him, Sithole’s tackle success is under 70%, he has been terrible this year.
it is really not as easy as simply replacing JPP with Sithole, no matter how shit JPP is, the sharks just really lack depth… which is going to be an even bigger problem next year across all South African teams.
the best defenders in the 13 position this year has been JJ engelbrecht and Lionel Mapoe, the big thing letting JJ down though is his turnovers conceded.
South Africa are literally on the brink at this stage, the Kings joining might literally throw us over the edge, also if SA players are available for the Japanese franchise, not to mention all the expats playing for the force and the TOP14… could this be the end of SA ever being competitive again in Super Rugby?

Senatla will definitely at least be on the bench this weekend unless he is injured… or in AC’s case too injured.
