Kicked out by Jurgen Visser… Bulls winnnnnnnnnn!

    Very good contest, & good rugby;
A measure of redemption for SA rugby.
Well done Bulls, tough luck Lions.

  • 126

    Phweeeeew, nerves are rather shot!

  • 127

    Whoooop, Whoooop!

Bulls top the SA Conference Log… a lead of 4 Log Points.

The weekend just gets better and better!!

  • 128

Concerned about the Bulls injuries… Piet van Zyl, Burger Odendaal, Jesse Kriel looked like he limped here towards the end

  • 129

OK fellas & flatties, I am packing up, in anticipation of the after match Press Conferences.

Goeie nag, have an awesome evening!

    Goooooo Mayweather!!

  • 130

    Cheetahs jou lekker ding !

Bulle jou nog lekkerder ding !

    Approve

  • 131

Oh yes, I was given a lekker, lekker Biltong Knipmes tonight by Vodacom in conjunction with ISUZU.

All of us here in the Press Box got one!!

  • 132

Only watched the first half over my shoulder in the restaurant. But it is so typical that injury wild strike just as piet gets some confidence going, and it halted the bulls atack.

  • 133

I wonder how true this is, and if so, whether they will return for SR like Steyn, Elton, Schalk and JPP

The Vodacom Bulls are set to suffer another player exodus at the end of the year.

According to Rapport newspaper, Pierre Spies, Francois Hougaard, JJ Engelbrecht, Akona Ndungane and Deon Stegmann will all be joining Japanese clubs.

Bulls high-performance manager Xander Janse van Rensburg confirmed that Spies and Hougaard’s contracts with the union expire at the end of the year.

It will be the Bulls’ biggest loss of players at once since 2013, when Morné Steyn, Jano Vermaak, Wynand Olivier, Zane Kirchner, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Jacques Potgieter and Dewald Potgieter all went overseas.

Well knock me down with a feather!
I scored the fight round-by-round and at the end I thought that the Pacman had won by about two points, I was amazed to see that I’d scored it even at 115-115! How one judge saw it at 118-110 is beyond me.
    Disapproval

    @ BrumbiesBoy:

The judges see the fight from different angles than the TV cameras which makes it impossible to really compare scores with those of the judges. I also thought the fight was closer but Floyd ended stronger.

Any chance the Stormers will re-patriate Jantjies?

After Coleman’s match winning performance yesterday, anything is possible

  • 138

    @ nortie:

Coleman will be back next weekend. As will the even more useless Schreuder. The main reason (imo) why AC never won (or will ever win) a superrugby tournament is that he never had a world class flyhalf playing in any of his teams.

  • 139

    @ robzim:
    What about Grant? 😆

  • 140

    @ nortie:

In comparison to Coleman Peter is nearly world class.

Robert du Preez had quite a good match yesterday for the Vodacom side and I would give him a run off the bench.

Everybody knows Coleman is just not good or consistent enough to play at this level so imo it serves no purpose to continue with him week after week.

  • 141

    @ robzim:
    Yep, agree.

To sub Demitri to play “expansive” was plain stupid.
We don’t have the quality backs to play running rugby on attack. They can score from turnover if the opportunity arises, but on attack they are toothless.

Nothing has changed really, except they are trying to show intent to play running rugby, but lack the personnel to successfully implement that type of game plan

  • 142

    @ nortie:
Interesting you say that and not even the most hardened stonmer supporter could deny that…

But no doubt if dda and jdj does not make it into the bok team there will be screams of blue and white hooped murder… To a lesser degree even kolbe and there will be a new debate on HM being to “only” coach in the world obsessed with big players.

  • 143

Ruan bothas stocks are unfortunately dropping by the week. Two humiliating weeks in a row.

  • 144

    142 @ MacroBull:
Some players can “make things happen” for their team mates to finish off the moves.
I think DDA is on of those, and JdJ as well, but their problem is they do the “hard work”, but also want the glory of scoring the try too often.
To me, that’s where the Kiwi sides are far superior to ours, their playmakers love making opportunities for their team mates to score.

That’s where Hougaard has impressed me lately, he is on hand when there is a break, but looks to offload agin after making meters, and if the move should end with him, he will score, but that seems secondary in the purpose.

The Lions also play to get their team mates into scoring positions.

Schalk is the one Stormer who is trying to give his mates the opportunity to be in a better position, but Kolbe, DDA and JdJ would rather score first themselves if they could IMO.

Fair comment there Rob, and I agree that Mayweather finished stronger, I had him winning three of the last four rounds.

What a WONDERFUL weekend of rugby… and the best possible outcomes I could ever have imagined!

Crusaders lost, Chiefs lost, Sharks lost, Stormers lost… Bulls won with a bonus point and the Lions got a losing bonus point, the Cheetahs now within 1 Log point of the Sharks after a spirited win.

The only down-side of the weekend is that the Hurricanes continued winning, but it had to be, they were playing the Saders.

Canes are now set nicely to easily end TOP of the Combined Log.

It’s good to see the Bulls in 2nd spot, but the coming BYE this weekend will drag them back 4 points and cause some above them to increase the lead… and then it is a difficult tour, where the Bulls will not win all 4, I can almost guarantee it…

The Bulls have a fair chance of winning 2 from 4 on tour and an outside chance of winning 3 from 4.

  • 147

I see there was a few scrum penalties… Still Dean’s fault?

  • 148

    147: ja … en apartheid se skuld ! 😀

    Only Hougie will be missed

I must give Spies credit though, he’s playing very well so far

Maybe trying to impress his new employers, trying to get a few thousand more Yen on his contract?

    @ Victoriabok:
Japan is not so bad, we can only hope some of these guys can come back for Super Rugby.

There are plenty of players going to France though…
