  • 194

    29 Crusaders v Hurricanes
    29 Brumbies v Vodacom Bulls
    29 Cell C Sharks v Rebels
    30 Highlanders v Chiefs
    30 Force v Reds
    30 DHL Stormers v Cheetahs
    30 Emirates Lions v Waratahs

    Nou kan dit interessant raak.

    Canes moet Sader finaal uithaal
Bulle moet Brumbies wen om nog top 6 te haal
Landers en Chiefs veg vir plek 4 en 5
Stormers lekker 5 punte teen Staat
Leeus moet Tahs wen om in top 6 te bly, en dit sal die Stormers help om dalk 2de op log te eindig as Tahs gly

The difference in attitude between SA rugby and NZ rugby was clearly demonstrated tonight at the end of the Stormers game. They were 16 points ahead and with the hooter going of, there was absolutely no chance that the Rebels would catch them. 3 tries in the bag already but what do they do when the ball was kicked downfield by the Rebels? Yes, you’ve guessed it… kick it into touch so that the ref could end the match.

Now, if that were the Canes, Saders or the Higlanders (or any other NZ team) who needed just one more try to secure a BP win, no chance of losing the match, the hooter already gone and you receive the ball from a kick down field…even if it is in their own half. What would they have done?

Jip…run it back to the opposition and try and score the BP try…that’s what!

No wonder there are THREE NZ teams on top afa log points are concerned.

    The REAL log.

    Team…………….Play…Win…Lose…Points

    Hurricanes…….13…….12……..1……….57
    Chiefs…………..13………9……..4……….44
    Highlanders….13………9 ……..4……….43
    Waratahs………13………9……..4……….41
    Stormers……….13………9……..4……….38
    Brumbies………13………7……..6……….38
    Lions…………….14……..8………6……….36
    Bulls……………..13……..7………6……….35
    Crusaders……..13……..6 ………7……….31

    @ Nama:

Got to agree with you there. Kicking the ball into touch was an abysmal finish to the game.
Also when we were 28 – 10 ahead, given a penalty straight in front, what do they do – yep, go for poles. It was an ideal set-up for a lineout.

    @ Nama:

Another confirmation why I am not in favour of this conference system.

    The P/O joint log:
    Hurricanes 13 12 0 1 363 220 143 9 57
    Waratahs 13 9 0 4 298 248 50 5 41
    Stormers 13 9 0 4 300 258 42 2 38
    Chiefs 13 9 0 4 326 239 87 8 44
    Highlanders 13 9 0 4 350 261 89 7 43
    Brumbies 13 7 0 6 290 188 102 10 38

The Stormers will draw the Brumbies for the 1st round at Newlands, alas, witha Kiwi referee 😉
    A daunting task

  • 208

    @ Hondo:
That may be true at this stage but remember that the Brumbies still have two “easy” games against the Bulls (h) and the Force (a) left, as well as a home game against the Saders which the must be odds on favorites to win as well.

The Highlanders, on the other hand, has two tough games coming up against the Chiefs(h) and the Canes (a), as well as an away game against the Blues. They can easily lose at least two of those if not all three. That will have them drop down to 6th position at best and maybe even outside the top 6 at worst.

So, I think it’s a bit premature to suggest that the Stormers will play the Brumbies in the play off.

    @ Nama:

Hondo and his premature expectation – why am I not surprised.

    Upsets happen. All the time.

  • 210

@ Nama: agree wholeheartedly Nama. Well put. Its a question of attitude and possibly even culture. Maybe a rugby culture. Who the stuff knows. But the Kiwi’s natural instinct is to think on their feet, look for the opportunities and put max points on the board.
