Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers is being linked with the head coaching position of the Boland Cavaliers.
De Villiers has been Director of Rugby at the University of the Western Cape for the last few seasons, but his contract expired at the end of this year’s Varsity Shield competition.
He recently indicated that he was in the market for a new job.
According to Thursday’s Die Son newspaper, De Villiers is set to be named as the new Boland coach, replacing Abe Davids who left his post earlier in the week.
The newspaper reported that Boland board members were divided as to who should be the new coach, with Randall Modiba and Andries Human also mentioned as possible coaches.
Modiba is the current Boland Under 21 coach, while Human is a former Boland and Blue Bulls prop.
Whether or not De Villiers gets the Boland job remains to be seen.
De Villiers coached the Springboks between 2008 and 2011. Before that he also coached the Valke as well as the Junior Springbok teams.
He won 30 of his 48 Tests as Springbok coach, boasting a 62% winning record. His most notable achievements were coaching the Springboks to a series victory over the British and Irish Lions in 2009, as well as the Tri-Nations title that same year.
